Better Hope (There Must Be)

you have the arctic in your eyes
titan's surface of ice and hidden water
I'd send satellites and probes to break your surface
but I deserve better hope
(you don't like people like me)
and more promising discovery
     (I'm afraid of what's underneath)
sometimes I hate the way you smile
     breaking the atmosphere
and burning up and spiraling into
          zero gravity
I do not like fires in cold places
     (you are disturbing the peace)
I catch myself stuck in your pull
and have to remind myself I am
          more than a moon
               or passing debris
I am not hurtling asteroids
     or cold meteors
I am an entire system
     of binary stars
          and gas giants
               and living breathing earths
I am barred galaxies
     with bent arms
and you do not have to understand me
maybe I am not being fair to you
but you have looked at the stars and proclaimed them
     strange and ugly
(the boys and girls like me)
so I will explore other planets
and I will not disturb blue snow
     and the quiet tundras
          I think you hold
because I deserve better hope
