""I'm going to have to ask, because they'll ask. Have you and rick ever at anytime had prior relations as far as sex?" Ford shuffled a few papers around making little to no eye contact with me as I thought the question over.
"Yes."
"Was it ongoing?"
"By the time he raped me it had been over some time at my request. I was young and naive thinking he and I could ever be—."
"—I'm gonna stop you right there."
I looked at him in awe and confused as to why.
"You don't want to insinuate that you're doing all of this due to a failed relationship or broken promise."
"It's been nearly 5 years why would I decide now when I didn't even want him to know she belonged to him. I wanted absolutely nothing more to do with him."
"But they'll say you let him represent you for the second time and even shared a home with him."
I knew ford was still preparing me for the cross examination, so I suppressed my frustration.
"I didn't hate him I still don't hate him. In a way I feel like he'd helped me so much and I didn't want to be the girl who cried wolf for the second time so I decided not to press charges at the time. Hell I think me being on trial for murder was far more important than him raping me logically.
Ford rubbed his forehead taking a deep breath.
"We can conclude for tonight. The Trial is set for next week, we'll rehearse some more in the mean time. Have you heard from your father, I had my secretary call him a few times to get a few notes I need to review and no response yet." He glimpsed at his watch adding.
"Ok, umm I haven't, I'll definitely call him to relay the message. Sorry." I gathered my belongings replying.
As I loaded into my car in the parking lot I called my father only getting the voicemail and decided to try again prior to sending a text. That was strange I thought pulling out onto the road.
In the meantime I figured I'd check on Power.
"Hey mom!!"
"How are you sweet guy?"
"Great! Grandma and I went to the water park we're just getting in we had so much fun!"
"That's good to hear. Was it just you and grandma?"
"Yep and she was moving like a 20 year old I could barely keep up!" He chuckled overly excited.
"You are so silly. What are you guys having for dinner?"
"Chinese, grandmas gonna let me eat with the chop sticks and it's real Chinese food."
"Oh man you are living the life! Well be good and tell grandma I said hi."
"Ok I will mom. Love you."
"Love you too, bye."
As I hung up I checked to see if my dad had responded and there was still no sign. So I grabbed dinner on the way home for the both of us figuring he'd just been out networking and tried not to worry too much.
After making it home I took a long steam shower rehearsing in my head all the possibilities of things going wrong before the trial and even second guessing if I was doing the right thing. By the time I had concluded the many scenarios the water had gone cold and I was forced to get out of the shower. I had a FaceTime miss call from Steph yet not one from my dad.
