"So, tell me your name, again?" a boy was asking.
"My name's Elissa," she said in a very quiet voice.
"Why are you always so alone when we're at lunch?" he asks her.
She winces a little when he asks her this; it brought back some terrible memories. "It's nothing," she denied, not wanting anyone's help with her own problems.
"Are you sure it's nothing? If there's something wrong, then I can help you with it," he said, trying to figure out what was wrong.
"I told you it's nothing," she said, getting a little aggravated.
"Okay...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get you mad. I was just trying to help," he said, starting to walk away.
"Wait..." Elissa called after him.
He turned around, and asked, "What is it?"
"I know you were just trying to help...but really, this is my problem, and no one needs to be in on it. I just need to figure it out on my own," she explained.
"But sometimes it is better to talk to someone about it. So if you ever need to talk, I'll always be here, he said, sitting down beside her. He looked over at her, and he saw a little tear rolling down her cheek. "What's wrong?"
"It's...nothing," she sighed, wiping her tear away.
"Like I said before, I'm always here when you need me," he said, as the bell rang for them to go to their next class. He got up, and waved good-bye to her, as he started walking towards his next class. She sat there a little while, and thought about what he had said about him always being there for her. She stood up, and started walking towards her next class. "Maybe there are some people that I can trust," Elissa told herself in her mind.
The day had gone on like normal: she went to her fourth, fifth, six, and seventh period classes, then went home, dreading the arrival of her dad. He went out of town four days ago, and was coming back that afternoon. Once she got home, she went to her room, and stayed there until about 5:30 that afternoon. She picked up her little backpack she had packed full with things to do and snacks to eat. She climbed out of her window, just in case her dad might have all ready came home, and she started walking down the street. "I can't believe I'm running away from my own dad," Elissa sighed in her mind.
