Price You Pay

I hate the way you make me feel
The love I had for you was so surreal
So you strung me along for a little while
Because I couldn’t say no to that damn smile
You made me feel there could be an us
You slithered in and gained my trust
You had me fooled with all your lies
Your snake like eyes had me hypnotized
I came to you every time you beckoned
When you prioritized I was always second
I got on my feet and stood my ground
Said to Either leave or stick around
You apologized and chose the former
Which released me from all your torture
It took me much too long to learn
What you had to give wasn’t what I deserved
When I feel there’s something there
I give my all when I decide to care
Maybe I tend to dive too deep
When I offer up my heart to keep
Someday they’ll accept what I have to offer
And wont make me feel like I’m a bother
Though all the pain is getting old
It’s the price you pay for a heart of gold.
