"Hello, I'm Sargent Leon," an older man greeted, holding his hand out for me to shake. "You must be the new rookie."
I hesitated before I shook it.
"Yes, I am," I smiled nervously. "I'm, I'm Dr. Rachel Cookie."
So this is my new boss...
"That's an Interesting last name, Dr. Cookie." he mused.
What's he going to be like?
"So I've been told." I sighed.
"Come with me and I'll show you your new team," he said, gesturing for me to follow him.
What are my new coworkers going to be like?
"Alright." I nodded, following him out of his office.I wonder how working here will be like...
"Rosy?" I hummed, looking at her worriedly. "Are you alright?"
She's been wincing every few minutes.
"Yeah," she breathed out, rubbing her swollen stomach. "I'm fine, just some stomach pains. It's fine, it'll go away soon."
"And how long has this been going on?" I asked.
"About an hour or so," Rosy answered, wincing again and rubbing her stomach soothingly.
"Umm, not to alarm or anything, but," I hummed. "I'm pretty sure that you're in labor."
"What?" she uttered.
"I mean, I'm don't have a doctorate in, umm, that," I laughed nervously. "But it sounds like you're having contractions and we should probably get you to the hospital."
"A-ahh, yeah, r-right." she stuttered, moving to stand up.
I quickly got up to help her up.
"I'll take you there, alright?" I smiled, keeping a hold on her.
Darn, it's crowded in here. Of all time's why now?
"Hey!" I shouted over all of the noise. "Out of our way, please! There's a baby on the way!"
"Way to be inconspicuous about it," Rosy muttered under her breath as we made out way through the mass of people.
"Never said I was going to be." I shrugged.
"You doing okay?" I asked, glancing at her from the corner of my eyes.
I got permission to use the sirens to get to the hospital.
"I'm fine." Rosy gritted out.
Her contractions are getting worse.
"Alright." I hummed.
I need to hurry.
I don't think the sergeant would appreciate a baby being born in one of the cars very much.
"How much further until we get to the hospital?" Rosy wondered.
"Not much," I answered. "We're almost there. Don't worry."
"I think you're the one that's worrying." she retorted.
"I'm sorry." I pouted. "I've never been anywhere near a woman that's about to give birth before. It's a new experience for me."
"Just take deep breaths and stay calm." she said.
"Shouldn't I be the one telling you that?" I mused.
"Just shut up and drive," Rosy ordered.
"Yes, ma'am," I mumbled.
"I don't know, Marino." I murmured. "I mean, I'm not going into to leave her here to have the baby alone."
"I'll tell the sarge," he paused on the other side of the phone.
"What?" I asked. "What is it?"
It sounded like there were paper's being moved around on his side of the phone.
"We just got a new case." Marino sighed. "I'll tell the sarge that you're gonna stay with Rosy."
Alas, people never cease to stop doing sickening things. Our job is never done.
"Right," I responded. "I'll join in on the case after I know Rosy is okay."
"You do that," he said. "I'll catch you up when you get back."
"Will do," I nodded. "Thank's."
"Hey," he hummed. "What are partner's for?"
