Shade got in between me and the lady holding the gun.
"Put the gun down," he ordered. "Now."
I can't move.
"Move." the lady said. "I'll shoot you too if you don't move."
"I am a federal agent and my wife is a cop." Shade said. "If you shoot me or my pregnant wife, you could be punished by the death penalty."
I've been in situations like this before, why am I so frozen with fear?
"Listen," I whimpered. "I, I don't know who you are, or who's life you think I ruined, but, umm, I'm sorry. Just, please, put the gun down."
My hands slowly moved to Shade's lower back.
"No!" she screamed.
I grabbed the gun that was hiding underneath Shade's shirt.
"This is your last warning," Shade said. "Put the gun down."
"No!" she shouted again, aiming the gun at us.
I moved to Shades side and shot her.
"She's, she's not dead," I mumbled. "Is she?"
We called the ambulance after I shot her.
They checked up on Shade and I as she was moved to the area where they do surgeries.
After Shade's checkup was done, they allowed him to be with me.
"I don't know." he murmured, brushing some hair out of my face. "I'm sorry, love."
"The doctor's won't tell me anything." I sighed. "They told me that I'm okay and that the babies are okay too."
"It'll be alright." Shade smiled. "Just don't think about it. Everything will be alright."
"But what if she dies," I whimpered. "Everything won't be alright then."
"Yes it will," he responded. "Her death will not be on you. It will be on her."
"But I'm the one who shot her," I said. "Her death would be on me."
"No, stop blaming yourself." Shade frowned. "She's the one who was waving a gun around. You did what you had to do; what you were trained to do."
"I know that I had no other choice," I sighed. "but why do I feel so guilty?"
"It's just a natural response, love." Shade answered.
"I'd hate to be 'that guy', but could it possibly be that you're feeling so guilty due to the pregnancy?" Nick asked.
I hummed.
"Possibly." I murmured. "Let's just, uh, let's just blame it on that."
Shade chuckled. "As you wish, my love."
My phone rang and Shade picked it up and handed it over to me.
I nodded at him in thanks as I answered the call.
"This is Dr. Rachel Night." I hummed.
"Hey, Rach, it's Marino." the person on the other end said. "I looked into the person."
"And what did you find?" I asked.
"She's Peter's older sister," he answered.
He had a sister?
"O-oh," I uttered.
Why should I be surprised he didn't tell me about that.
Ugh.
"You alright, Cookie?" Marino wondered.
"Umm, oh," I stuttered. "Ye-yeah. I'm fine. Thank you."
Her finding me a few months after he escaped? That's fishy.
