"So, you're the genius they've been telling me about?" the guy that's sitting next to Nick hummed.

"I'm afraid so. I'm Rachel Cookie. Hopefully, I will be Dr. Rachel Cookie in a few years." I shrugged. "And you are?"

"I'm Alec Tryinski," he answered. "Hopefully I will be able to graduate in a few years."

"If you need help with something I could help," I suggested.

"I'll keep that in mind." he smiled. "Thanks."

"Also," I hummed, smiling darkly. "If you ever hurt Nick, you're dead."

"Got it." he nodded.

"I mean it," I warned. "They will never find the body if you so much as hurt a hair on his head."

"That's not even possible." Shade laughed.

"Shut up," I muttered, elbowing him in the gut.

I groaned as I groggily opened my eyes.

"Rachel?" Alec hummed. "You up?"

"No." I retorted. "I'm down."

My throat is sore and my head is throbbing.

"I'm going to go get the doctor," Alec said.

"What happened?" I asked, holding my head.

"You passed out after giving birth to three healthy babies," Nick responded.

My babies.

"Where are they?" I questioned. "Can I see them? Where is Shade?"

"Shade is with them," he answered. "And it's the doctor who can answer whether you can leave the bed or not."

The doctor walked in with the doctor.

"How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Sore, but fine." I sighed. "Can I see my babies now?"

"They'll be brought in here soon after they're finished being cleaned and checked." the doctor informed me. "While that's happening, we're going to need to run some tests to make sure you're okay."

Ugh. I just want to see them now, though.

"Rachel, my darling," Shade smiled as he walked into the room. "You're up."

"Yeah," I breathed out. "I am."

If he's here, then the babies should be coming in any second now.

"They should be here in a minute." Shade chuckled.

"What if," I uttered. "What if I can't do this? What if I'm not cut out to be a parent? What if I'm a bad parent and I ruin their lives?"

"You'll be a great mother, Rachel. Don't you ever think that again." Shade ordered softly. "Besides you have me to help you raise them, you're not alone nor will you ever be. We're in this together, forever and always."

He gently pressed his lips on mine for a few moments before standing back up.

"You're right." I sighed.

They brought our children in.

Finally.

They handed me two of them and handed Shade the third one.

This is a nice feeling.

"Do you have the name's picked out for them?" one of the nurses asked.

"Yes, we do." Shade answered. "Onyx for the eldest girl, Axl for the boy, and Shadow for the youngest girl."

"This is such a strange feeling," I hummed as I breastfed little Shadow for the first time.

"The feeding thing?" Shade asked.

"No, that's not what I was talking about," I sighed. "But this is a strange feeling too."

"Then what?" Shade murmured.

"We're parents." I breathed out. "We're actually parents."

"And you think that it's a strange feeling?" he questioned.

"It's a new feeling." I smiled as I heard the other two making little cooing sounds in their sleep. "It's strange because it's new. I like this feeling very much."

"Me too." Shade agreed softly.

"Did I ever tell you about my great-grandmother?" I asked.

"No, I don't believe you did." he shook his head.

"She was apparently a teen mama and also had triplets," I said. "She was 16 when they were conceived but turned 17 before they were born."

"So you got that gene from her?" he wondered.

"Possibly." I sighed.

I don't think I've ever felt this kind of contentment before.

I will protect these three little ones with my life if that's what must be done to protect them and I know Shade must be thinking the same thing as well.
