After Ricky got out of the car, Clay closed the door to the key storage, and pulled out his phone to call his parents at home. Back at the mansion, Victor was getting the table ready to see Clay on television.
Meanwhile, Chloe was making guacamole, salsa, and melted cheddar, while Walter was ordering Papa John's, while cooking pop corn. "Can't believe your boy is going to be on National TV," Walter said. "I know, he makes an android Mother like me so proud," Chloe agreed. "I just hope something doesn't go wrong." "Hey, come on, Chloe," Walter explained. "Your son takes after a good driver, and he's been raised to love racing ever since you got re-married."
"Well I guess I owe you for that," Chloe said. "Clayton wouldn't have a future if it wasn't for you." "Who else but your old man," Walter explained. "Now come on, and give your Pa a hug, but easy with your strength." "Sure thing, Dad," Chloe said, and reached out to hug her father without crushing his rib cage, and spine.
Suddenly the phone rang, having Walter answer it. "Hello," Walter said. "Grandpa?" Clay asked. "When did you get home?" "I just arrived after you left, boy," Walter answered. "I finished up early so I didn't want to miss you on television." "Well, can you put Ma, and Vic on the line?" Clay asked. "I need to talk to them." "Sure thing, boy," Walter answered. "Vic, get your ass in here. Your boy is on the phone." "Coming," Victor said, and came into the kitchen, after setting the table. "Put him on speaker so we both can hear."
Walter pressed the speaker button, so Chloe and Victor can hear what Clay needed to say. "So, what did you wan't to talk to us about, Clayton?" Chloe asked. "Well, Mr. Leonard just told me that this event is five days long," Clay answered. "Meaning I won't be able to come home until the tournament is over which means it will end on Friday." "Why won't they let you go home?" Victor asked. "Mr. Leonard explained that their will be 49 other racers participating in this event," Clay answered. "So, please forgive me if I might not come back after the end of the day." "Clayton, we'll forgive you no matter what problems you have," Chloe said. "You're sixteen years old, so you're allowed to have adventures on your own."
"Yeah, and we'll still be there for you, even when we're not there," Victor agreed. "Listen Clayton, we suffered through the same problems once we were your age. My parents told me the same thing once I turned sixteen, and started going to college classes in high school, and I was okay with the advice they gave me, so I'm sure that advice will work out for you as well." "Thanks Vic," Clay said. "That means a lot to me, and so do you, and Ma. I just wish Daisy was here to see me on television." "We'll record it on VHS if she ever gets freed," Chloe explained. "Good luck with the tournament Clayton." "Okay, see y'all at the end of Friday," Clay said, and hung up.
