It's interesting to hear "mine"
When it comes to a significant other
And not have it be possessive."He's mine."
"She's mine."
It's just two words,
But they have a deeper connotation.
"Mine" has always meant possessing
Something, possessing someone,
But it's been tainted by those who
Hold on much too tight. For me, it's bittersweet.
I'd love to hear "She's mine"
And have it be affectionate.
But it could easily become
Something darker.I wish to be someone's,
And have someone belong to me
The way that all good couples have it.
Maybe I'll get there, but even then
The idea of "mine" will be
At best wondrous, and
At worst dangerous.
