Alex
I heard someone knock on my door and I turned over. "It's open." I spoke aloud. The door opened revealing Hazel. "It's dinner time." She smiled leaning on my door frame.
"I'm not really hungry." I responded, trying my best to fake a smile. "That's not going to work anymore now that I know you're in here. Don't make me drag you." She laughed, walking over to me.
"Fine." I laughed, standing up. I looked in the mirror. I was wearing shorts and a tank top, my pjs. "Does it matter what I wear?" I asked looking at her.
"Uh no." She said slowly. She was wearing a tight black dress. I nodded and followed her out of my room and down the stairs.
We made it to the dining hall and I looked around, there were quite a few people and they definitely weren't in their pjs.
"Hazel I thought you said it didn't matter what I wore?" I spoke swallowing hard. "I wouldn't have gotten you out of your room if I told you to put a dress on." She smiled.
I rolled my eyes, now I felt out of place. Larce walked over to me and smiled. "You were able to get her out of her room!" He held the same smile. "I didn't mention the attire because I knew she wouldn't have come." She laughed straightening her posture and I looked at her weird.
"It's fine. this is my daughter's home, she should feel comfortable. Now see if you can get her to eat something." he tapped my arm gently and walked away.
She walked me over to the large table that everyone was sitting at and showed me where to sit, thank god it was right beside her.
I looked at the food in front of me and started to feel sick just smelling it. "I didn't know the workers were allowed to sit at the table with us." Someone mumbled in front of me, and I heard a deep laugh follow. It was a girl and the guy from earlier.
I ignored it and looked at Hazel. "Just ignore it. She's new, she's trying to prove something." She whispered side eying them. "I mean look at her, maybe larce doesn't feed them. She looks anorexic and severely malnourished." She cracked up again and I dug my nails into the palm of my hand trying not to jump across the table.
"Jess can you please close your mouth, you're letting the flies out." Hazel spoke up gaining her attention.
"Are you sure the flies aren't coming from the person sitting beside you?" She smiled coldly, and the guy beside her cleared his throat loudly. I want to shoot my arrow right through the both of them.
"You know jess, it's probably just your upper lip." I heard a familiar voice behind me and I immediately turned around to face it.
I saw Jordyn standing there and I felt joy welling up. I stood up quickly wrapping my arms around him tightly. He hugged me right back and didn't let go for a moment.
I let go of him and he pulled away smiling at me. I felt my eyes watering, and he touched the side of my face gently.
"You shouldn't be here." he whispered. "I have to." I sighed and leaned into his hand. "I understand." he trailed off, like he knew why.
"Do you know what happened?" I asked tilting my head. "Just about the whole school knows." he said quietly and I let out a breath. "Great." I turned and sat back down. He sat in the empty seat beside me.
"Jordyn Avery." Jess spoke up again. She looks as though she is studying him, like he's homework. She is so fucking annoying. "I thought you would have more respect for your self." she said motioning towards me.
"What is your problem?" I asked raising my voice at her. I got looks from people, including Larce. she looked taken back from my sudden loss of self-restraint.
The guy sitting beside her looked at me curiously and I sat back regretting causing a scene. In a few moments, people went back to eating.
"If you keep talking to her like that Jess, it'll be me and you." Jordyn said to her, pointing in between them. I can see him getting angrier by the second.
I saw her face flash red before she rolled her eyes and looked away from him. I stood up gently and pushed my chair under the table. "Where are you going?" Hazel asked grabbing my arm.
"Hopefully back to where she came from." I heard the guy mumble and I felt pain in my chest. People really aren't fond of me here.
I saw Jordyn tense up again so I put my hand on his shoulder relaxing him. "I'm gonna head up to my room." I said quietly.
"You didn't eat anything." Jordyn acknowledged looking at my plate and back at me. "I'm just not that hungry." I tried smiling.
He looked at me with a face full of disappointment. I tried smiling at him before I turned and began walking towards the stairs. I made it up to my room and closed the door. I leaned up against it and felt myself begin to cry again. I slid down the door and sat on the floor and looked up to the ceiling.
Why me? Why is my life like this? What did I do to deserve all of this shit? I thought to myself.
I got up and walked over to my bed and fell into it. I felt my eyes become heavy and I let myself fall asleep.
