A fresh new start.
"Are you ready River?"
The voice of Charles, her dad, brought her back to reality.
River looked back into the mirror, where a boy wearing an uniform was staring at her.
Her hair was brown, too short for a girl. Her eyes were of a blue-aquamarine color, hiding so much pain and sorrow.
"Almost done, father."
She replied, fixing the tie. She was getting ready for her first day of school at her new college Mystery Spell. She had been so excited thinking about a fresh start, until her father let her know he was moving as well.
With her.
He was not wrong after all, because she did think of starting college as herself, not the boy he saw her as. But he outsmarted her.
Again.
The uniform felt so tight. River tried desperately to losen up the bandages that kept her breasts from showing, but there was no space.
"Come on..." She whispered to herself, before her father showed up in the room.
"What are you doing?" He asked sharply. River stopped what she was doing, looking at her feet.
"Nothing, Sir. I was straightening my uniform, Sir."The man stepped in front of her and fixed his son's tie which was awkwardly tied.
"When will you learn how to fix your tie? You are a man now."
Everytime he said that it hurted.
It hurted so bad, River clenched her fists, looking at her father's hands trying to not show him the tears in her eyes."I will do better, Father." She nodded and faked a smile, feeling like she couldn't breath because the bandages were too tight.
"Good boy." He smiled, proud of him. "If your mother could see you, she would be as proud as me."
River nodded, trying to get the thought of her mother out of her brain. She knew, she always knew what was happening and never did anything to stop her husband.
River hated her mom.
Her hand grabbed her messengerbag and she headed out of the house with Charles, quickly entering his expensive BMW with a sigh.
As they approached the parking lot of the college, Charles looked around with a smile as he saw a few kids turning to look at his car. He always loved to showoff what he owned.
"Listen, son, I received a few phone calls when I enrolled you in this school. There will be a few ladies, daughters of some friends of mine, that will try to get to know you, to impress you. You know, the usual."
River nodded, looking at her knees, holding her bag closer to herself.
"I need to you to be the gentleman you are. Always kind, always giving each one of them attention. And I need you to do some research before you get closer to any of them. Do you know what I mean?" He asked seriously.
"Yes Father, I will figure out who's the one with the best dowry." She nodded mechanically.
"Outta boy." He chuckled to himself and parked the car, setting his sungless on his nose as they got out of the vehicle.
A boy and a girl not too far from the entrance turned toward River and smiled brightly.
"River! Hey River!"
The blonde waved her hand furiously back and forth. River looked at her dad who smiled and encouraged him to go to his friends.
She nodded and made her way to Samantha and Loan who were waiting for him.
