Everything burns. (Part 1)

"You better have an explanation for this!!!" Charles shouted out as his right hand smacked River's face, hard. She hadn't see it coming and couldn't avoid being hit. She didn't even know what did she do wrong, yet.

"W-what?" She asked as she turned around, holding her cheek with her right hand, fighting back the tears. Her cheek was on fire but she knew she couldn't cry or it would have been worse. Charles would only get more mad. "What in the world is this doing in here?" He threw something at her. After expecting another hit, River opened her eyes feeling something soft being thrown at her chest. She looked down and saw her black bra.
Fuck. She thought looking at the bra. How on earth did he find it? She had no idea, but she could not admit it was hers or he would kill her.
"That was given to me, father. At the party." She lied, looking into his eyes. "I danced with a few girls and one of them got really drunk. She was all over me, it was a gift I guess." She smiled through the pain. Her father was still mad but he believed her. "The Halloween party at your school? " He asked, calming down. "Yes, father."
Charles brought his hand to his forehead. "I am so sorry, son. I don't know what was I thinking." He pat River's shoulder.
"I guess you are gonna keep it as a trophy. Good idea. Who was the girl? What does her father do? Is she rich?" He asked always the same old questions.
"I'm getting closer to her so I can investigate more." She nodded. Charles smiled and like magic, his rage was gone. "Good boy. Keep it up." He pat her head and then left the room. River looked at herself in the mirror. Her cheek was red and pulsating with pain. How was she going to hide that?
She sighed and fixed her tie, put a pair of sunglasses on and headed out. It hadn't even been 24 hours and she was already regretting the choices she had made the night before.
Now she was going to have to explain how did she get that on her face.

As she approached the schoolyard, River was assaulted by Loan. "Where the hell were you last night, man?" He smacked River's back hard, making her cough. "I was around, didn't get a chance to find you guys. I was late and then I was talking to a few girls." Loan smiled as he heard that. He walked in front of River and stopped. "Were they hot?"
River smiled slightly. "Yeah."
Loan swore. "Damn, River. You gotta share with me man, they are all over you."
River laughed a bit, then Samantha came up to them. "I don't want to know what were you doing last night, but I do wanna know what did you do to get that?" She pointed at the red mark on her face.

River was self conscious and tried to adjust her glasses to cover the mark more. "Some drunk dudes in the parking lot last night... you know." Samantha looked at her for a few seconds. Loan took over. "What the fuck. Who the fuck did that? We gotta get them back!" He was mad his friend got beat up.
"We don't,  no worries. I didn't really see them. I was drinking too last night." She explained as they walked into Jones' classroom. River sat at her usual spot while Loan kept asking who did it. Finally Jones started the lesson and she was able to ignore Loan's questions. She really didn't need him to keep going, it was hard enough for her.

Sebastian could not not notice the red mark on his favorite student's face. He felt anger because he didn't know who did that to her. She spent the whole night with him, and he  had given her a ride home after the party. He was positive she didn't have anything on her face not even after meeting her in the atrium. River did not get that at school.
After analyzing her for the whole lenght of the lesson, Sebastian gave out some reading to do for the students, then ended class. Smantha and Loan told River thet would meet up later, they were used to see their friend go get his extra credits.

River found herself alone, putting her stuff away. She didn't miss Sebastian inquisitive look and she was nervous about it. She wasn't sure if he would remember  she did not have that when he gave her a ride home.
"River come help me with this, please." He called for her because she was taking time.
River sighed and got up, entering the office. "Yes?" She scanned the room trying to figure out what he needed help with. But Sebastian took her wrist, moved her away from the door and closed it quickly.
"Hey!" She said, glaring at his hand on her wrist, still.
Sebastian looked upset and kept holding her. "I need to know, right now, who did this to you. We do not tolerate any kind of bullying on this campus." River swallowed hard, he thought she was being bullied and he wanted a name. "I am okay, I am not being bullied. Can I have my wrist back?" She asked trying to keep calm.
"You are okay after being hit in the face? You do realize you have the red shape of a hand on your cheek." He let her go, but crossed his arms on his chest and blocked the way to the door. Sebastian wanted answers.
"I do not have a bully! This is nothing, please let me go out, Sir." She plead, but he didn't move.
"When I drove you home last night you didn't have any of that. Therefore it happened this morning before class." He assumed, looking into her eyes, thinking.
River shook her head. "Nobody laid a hand on me on campus. I need to go now, I will make up for these credits another time."
But Sebastian, again, didn't flinch. He listened to her words attentively and then, he realized what that meant. Unknowingly,  River had just told him who the culprit was.
"River, River." He tried to calm down seeing how nervous she was. "Did your father do this to you?" He asked very softly, making her freeze.
Shit. She thought,  calling herself an idiot. "I...I..." she needed to find something to say, she couldn't just break down.
At the same time she was so tired... tired of the lies, of the forceful things her father instructed her to do.
River was losing control.
Sebastian moved in closer, feeling a deep shiver down his spine as his brain realized that after all, maybe River didn't dress up as a boy because she wanted to. That thought froze him for a few seconds.
"River... it's okay. I won't tell anybody.  Not even your father. Did he hit you?"
River felt trapped. She sat on the ground, holding her knees to her chest, breaking down in tears. "I did something wrong last night, that's why I needed to be punished."
Sebastian watched his number one student cry in his office. A whirlwind of thoughts in his head and the pieces of that conplicated puzzle slowly coming together.
Last night she had been with him. The whole night. Sebastian passed his hand over his face, in disbelief. What was going on? River was forced by her father to be a boy? Her father must have not known about her coming to the party as herself, that was the only thing Sebastian could think about. Charles must have found out somehow she didn't obey to his rules... that was the only possible explanation. Sebastian was confused and upset with the girl's parent. Was that really what was going on?
"River... no father should ever hit their kids. You know that right?" He asked, kneeling in front of her, lifting her face with his finger.
River looked into his eyes, tears running down her face.
"You can trust me." He whispered, now a little closer.
Ricer swallowed hard, losing herself into his eyes so full of compassion and understanding.
Her brain shut down. She closed her eyes and without thinking she moved closer and kissed him. Sebastian was taken by surprise at first, but after the first seconds, he closed his eyes and took her face gently in his hands. He took over and caressed her hair and her cheek that wasn't marked. They longed for each other's mouth for a few more seconds, then, she realized what she had actually done.
She pulled away in terror, shaking. "That shouldn't have happened." She moved away from him, standing up again.
Fantastic.  She thought. Now he thinks you are gay! Congratulations River.
Sebastian slowly rose up. "It's okay, River you can trust me."
She lost a few more tears. "I am sorry, I am so sorry, please don't tell anybody, please don't tell my father!"
Sebastian shook his head, trying to stop her. "River please, calm down."
She moved towards the door. "It won't happen ever again, I am so sorry Sir." She opened the door and in a fraction of a second she was out of his office. Sebastian sat down, sighing loudly with frustration.  He didn't even get to tell her he knew her secret.
