Chapter XXIII.

Her and the sea.

"Are you sure you wanna do this, River? " Sebastian asked as they entered his classroom.

River nodded. For the first time she was going to attend class as her real self. She was nervous.

"I have to. It's time." She said.

And she meant it.

She had finally wrote Samantha and Loan and asked them to meet her in Jones' office before class started. She would explain everything, she promised.

Waiting, Sebastian put on the kettle to make tea for everybody and went to sit at his side of the desk.

River started pacing until they heard knocking.

She froze for a second, thinking of running away.

"I'm here, with you." Sebastian whispered.

River nodded and opened the door.

"RIVER!" Sam cried and hugged her right away, she didn't notice the truth, yet.

"River?" Was Loan's question as he scanned her from head to toe.

"Sam..." Loan touched Sam's shoulder and she opened her eyes.

Then, she noticed.

"What the..." She looked shocked and a tiny bit of what River could only see as disgust, colored her face.

River wanted to die.

"Please sit down I will explain everything. " She begged them.

Loan obliged, Samantha stood where she was.

"What kind of sick joke is this?" Her toxic voice came out.

River felt nervous but she started from the beginning.

She prayed so hard for them to stay her friends, to understand.

As she talked to them, Sebastian excused himself and walked out of the office. He had sensed Peter and Drogo outside.

"Jones, do you want us to intervene?" Drogo asked referring to what was happening inside.

Sebastian shook his head. "I would love to have you change their memory of her, but... she would never forgive me if she knew magic was involved."

Drogo nodded. "Alright."

Peter nodded as well and went to sit down.

A few minutes later the door slammed open and Samantha ran out of the office and the classroom, livid.

"Sam!" River tried to call her back, but what was done was done.

Loan stood up. "You gotta admit, this sounds fucking crazy, man. Ahem, sorry, River." He corrected himself. "Habit."

River tried to smile. "Right."
Loan moved closer to her, eyeing her carefully.

"I'm not some weird creature, I won't bite, Loan."

Loan chuckled. "This is weird. And you have boobs!"

River looked at him and crossed her arms on her chest.
"Duh?"

Loan turned red for a second, realizing he had been staring at his best friend's breast.

"Uhm. Sorry." He messed his hair up with his hand.
"Give Sam some time... she really, really liked you, you know... I think she loved you." He continued.
