The curse.
It was only getting worse.
They got back to Mistery Spell a few days later. Sebastian was so thrilled about bringing back the talisman, he kept telling everybody how River had found it.
All the girls in Jones' class kept following her around, trying to get her attention.
River was getting annoyed and frustrated, not only they wouldn't leave her alone, she also had to deal with the illness she had contracted.
She came to the conclusion it was a poison or a virus and it was slowly extending. At first it was her hand, then her wrist, now it had gotten almost to her elbow.
She really didn't know what to do. She was still stubborn and proud and refused to tell Sebastian.
Locked into the restroom she looked at her hand, pulling up the sleeve after taking off the gloves she had been wearing.
"Fuck." She kicked the trash can, upset. It was almost to the elbow alright.
She covered it up and wore the gloves again, grinning her teeth as her skin felt like it was on fire.
She needed to keep it together, she had to go see Sebastian in the Dean's office and discuss about the ceremony they wanted to organize for the recent discovery.
"Great, another stupid party."
She shook her head looking at her reflection, took a deep breath and headed to the Dean's office.
*
One whole hour.
It took that man that long to congratulate them and explain when the ceremony would happen.
River was in such a hurry to leave that once she exited the office she didn't even wait for Sebastian.
But he quickly caught up with her and grabbed her arm.
"River wait." He held on to her injured limb.
She hissed in pain, pulling her wrist away from him, making him really suspicious.
"Can I talk to you in my office, Mister Carter?" Sebastian crossed his arms on his chest as a few students passed by, waving at the two of them.
Fuck. She thought.
"Yeah, sure." She nodded and followed him, praying he wouldn't question her.
*
"You are avoiding me." He stated once the door was closed.
River looked away from him, knowing it was true.
"Why? Did I do something wrong? Did I say something you didn't like?" He moved closer, sensing her pride first and then, her fear.
River didn't speak.
"River I cannot read your mind, talk to me." He rested his hands on her shoulders, she trembled slightly.
"Not avoiding you..." She lied.
Sebastian lifted her chin up.
