Chapter XXI.

Too close to the sun.

Sebastian had been distracted by his beautiful lover and didn't pick up the cop's scent from downstairs.

River looked into Sebastian's eyes, not knowing who Evans was.

"That is Detective Evans. I forgot about him coming." Sebastian admitted as he kissed her.

"Take your time getting dressed, I will go open the door."

River felt like cold water had just been poured over her.

"A detective? Sebastian..."
She wasn't prepared for that. She didn't know what to do.

Sebastian had told her he had everything planned to help her out, but she felt like she could never be ready for that.

Jones smiled kindly. "Everything is fine, beautiful, come in when you are ready."

Then, he got dressed and quickly disappeared.

"The kids on campus told me River is your assistant?"
Evans went right to the point.

"Yes, indeed. My best student in fact." Sebastian admitted proudly.

Evans begun pacing.
"You gotta tell me more. I have some weird stuff on this case. Have you ever met this kid's father? He is an asshole."

Sebastian smiled. "Believe me. I know. But I do have something for you."

Evans smiled back.
"I knew it. I thought I picked up your scent on their property."

Sebastian offered him some whiskey and sat down. "I had to pay the man a visit and you will understand why."

He called for his love and she walked in the room, wearing one of Sebastian's t shirts and some sweat pants.

Evans turned towards the girl, noticing right away the dark bruises on her body and face. He felt awful.

But then, right when he looked at her face, he became confused.

He pulled out a picture of River Carter and looked at it. Then back at the girl.

"Wait a minute. What the hell? River has a twin sister?" He said glancing at Sebastian.

The teacher shook his head.

Evans looked at the girl, in shock.

"I  am River Carter. "

Her voice was almost a whisper.

Silence fell upon the room.

"Can somebody explain? " Evans asked, in shock.

Sebastian came to River's aid.
"She's not a boy. But her father forced her to play the part for many years."

That was the point of no return.
There was no turning back from those words.

She felt sick as anxiety washed over her. Sebastian caught that and moved to help her sit down.
