If you'll excuse me I'm going to go and hide for a while.
^^This chapter was also heavily insipired by the following two songs, so if you wanna check those out to get the real feel, please do so :)
La Vie En Rose - Christin Milioti
Mystery of Love - Sufjan Stevens"Why are you cleaning?" The condescending tone I've come to recognise before I even see my sister calls out. She leans against the door frame, arms crossed like one of those overly invested mothers you find in teen films.
I hoik a bunch of clothes into my washing basket, glancing up at her as I start picking up various pieces of paper and the odd paperclip. "I'm going to have company, Cassandra." I grab an old Gatorade bottle - when the fuck did I last have Gatorade? - and toss it from my hunched-over position, missing the bin and hobbling over to put it in manually. "Is that okay with you, Your Highness?"
She holds her hands out in front of her, "Settle down buckeroo, I don't think Erik's going to care all too much about how clean your room is. Just remember to turn the music up if y'all are gonna do anything nasty."
I stand up straight, blinking at her. "Jeremy's coming over, not Erik."
Sassie blinks at me this time. She considers this as I start wiping stray crumbs off my bed. "...you're not gonna be doing the nasties with him are you?"
I pause, not sure what emotion I feel, only that it's not good. "No. Definitely not."
She sighs, coming in and closing the door behind her. "Look, I've never met the kid, but from what you've told me, Erik deserves to be more than a sidepiece, Justin."
I throw my hands in the air, sitting on my bed. "First Will and Erik, now you. Why the hell does everyone think I'm suddenly going to catch feelings for Jeremy again?"
Sassie sits next to me, a certain warmth coming off her. "It's not that we expect the worst of you or that we think you go out of your way to hurt people, but you have to realise at this point that most of the shit you do is in retaliation to whatever your feeling in here-" she jabs my chest, over my heart, "-you can be really selfish sometimes Justin, and... well, you act like a dick when you get an idea in your head."
"I'm not that bad of a person, okay. I've never thought or even had the thought to cheat on someone - let alone Erik."
"You cheated on Allison with her brother."
I point at her defensively, "That was way different."
Sassie raises an eyebrow at me. "How? You put away old feelings, dated someone and then, as soon as you were reminded of those feels, acted on them." She gives me a look. "You're telling me the same thing couldn't potentially happen with Jeremy?"
"It doesn't matter what I tell you, or anyone for that matter, you've already got an idea in your head of what kind of a person I am and the dickish choices I'm - apparently - bound to make," I say, laying back on the bed.
Sassie scoffs, standing up. "Don't victimize yourself, Justin, we don't think you're a bad person, or that you have bad intentions. I'm telling you this because I know that you can - not always - get caught up in the past and what-ifs. Just this once, don't test it. Erik's good for you, really good for you. Don't mess it up."
She walks to the door, opening it up and standing in the doorway for a moment. "Curiosity killed the cat, and yeah, maybe satisfaction brought it back - but the story never says anything about how much the cat had to lose, does it?"
Sassie closes the door behind her. Downstairs the doorbell rings.

"Ok, down to business. What was the task exactly?" Jeremy asks. We're sitting next to each other, each on a chair at the desk next to my bed, laptop in front of us. "Dave said something about Pride, that's as much as I know."
