Down the same street the two of us always take.
It's silent.
Well, except for the sound of our worn out shoes against the rough concrete.
I don't want silence.

"Huh?" You jump in slight surprise.
It seems I've cut through your long train of thought.
I take a deep breath before saying,
"Do you want to go on a date with me?"

I suddenly stop in my tracks.
You do too.
You look a bit nervous.
But compared to me,
you're probably fine.
A date. Eating out, watching movies, holding hands type of date.
Would I like to go on a date with you?
Is that even an actual question.
I pause but I already have my answer, "Why not?"
Your nervous expression falls and a beautiful smile takes its place.
Your eyes are curving upwards again, like crescent silver moons.
You look forward and
we continue to walk
down the same street we always take.
I have to say it now.
Why is it so difficult?
"I l-like you too."
You stop walking.
You're surprised.
And then that smile of yours grows wider, bigger, happier.
It tugs at my heart.
