The ride in the car my mother had arranged that would take me to the boarding school lasted for almost an hour. The driver wasn't the smoothest driver I've met, but he managed to get me transported to my destination without a single scratch, which I appreciated.

We drove along the avenue and students kept walking in front of the car, which resulted in difficulty to reach the main building. Thank god I didn't have a drivers license. I would've gone nuts and used the honk on them. But this older man who drove was a better professional driver than I'll ever be.

''We're here, Miss. Fields.'' The driver stopped the car and walked out to open the trunk where the suitcases my mother had packed was waiting for me.

''Thanks.'' I politely said as I received the suitcases from the man.

With a loud sigh of relief I put down my bags on the gravel road and admired the huge building in front of me. I hadn't seen any pictures of the school since everything happened so fast, but I could honestly say that it surpassed my expectations.

''Emily Fields?''

I glanced to the left and noticed a slightly shorter brunette look curiously at me. She approached me and held out her hand. ''Hi. I'm Laila Brady, Chairman of the Student Council here at Jefferson's and it is part of my tasks to show our premises for all new students.''

''Talk about dedication.'' I said in a jokingly manner as I shook her hand.

''Excuse me?'' Laila questioned, her smile still showing. A perfect example of someone who asks that question to give you a chance to change your answer into something they want to hear. Let's just say I've seen it a lot already in my life.

''Nothing. You were saying?'' I smiled as well. Maybe starting something that could lead to bad decisions isn't such a good idea on my first day.

Laila squinted her eyes and flashed her white teeth at me. Braggart. ''Anyways. Let's visit the student residence you will be living in. At least the first year.'' She began to walk down the avenue and I followed by her side with my eyes looking around curiously. ''You work your way up to better residences during the years and eventually you'll end up at the Olympé, where all seniors are staying.''

''I'm just staying for one year.'' I interpolated in a causal tone as we kept walking.

''Oh, alright.'' Laila nodded, but shrugged it off. I'm so thankful she didn't ask any questions about it. I don't know this girl, and the last thing I want is for her to tell everyone what big of a loser I am before I even get the chance to introduce myself.

We stopped outside a slightly smaller building and Laila opened the door, then motioned for me to enter before her. I entered a long corridor with doors on both sides immediately. The building wasn't big at all.

''You're staying in the room at the end of the corridor.'' Laila spoke up and held her hand pointing towards the end.

I walked up to the door at the very end and opened it. The room looked kinda cozy though. Except for one thing, it was two beds in there. ''I have a roommate?''

Laila nodded with her hands professionally locked in height with her waist. ''You share rooms with Spencer Hastings, she's a good girl, at least that's what I've heard. There are rumors that her father is doing great business abroad, I believe it was Switzerland or something.''

I just nodded. If she's a good girl or not doesn't concern me, I just hope she won't bother me too much.

''Do you practice any sports?'' Laila asked bluntly. It's so clear that she's not interested in the answer, but is doing her best to make conversations.

I rolled my suitcases close to the bed on the left and then gave the girl all my attention. ''I swim.''

Laila's eyes started to glow a little. ''Then you'll love our swimming pool down by the football track. Come on, I'll show you.''

''Alright.''

I followed the girl out of the building and down to the very end of the avenue.

''That's a couple of other things you should know about the school.'' Laila said after we had been walking for almost five minutes in silence. ''First of all we have a zero tolerance policy against cellphones, computers and all other kinds of modern technology. If you want to reach out to someone outside the school, use the phones in the main building. They are deployed in almost every corridor.''

We entered what looked like a sports facility as she continued to explain the rules. A swimming pool appeared in my sight and I gasped silently in admiration. Finally something good about this place.

''You like it?'' Laila smirked.

''Very much. Is everyone allowed to swim in here?''

''Yes, not all the time though. Our swim team usually occupies it most of the time, but there are some days every week you can use it. Or you can just tryout for the team and get to swim here every day?'' Laila chuckled and folded her arms.

''We'll see. I haven't been swimming at a professional level for years.''

''At some point you have to challenge yourself and dare to return.'' Laila pointed out. I raised an eyebrow at the girl. It was risky for her to tell me that without knowing the reason why I quit in the first place. But I'm sure it was nothing but a simple arrogant comment seen from her perspective.

I collected myself and put my hands comfortably in my front pockets. ''Thank you for showing me around. I should probably head back to my room to unpack my stuff.'' I said and walked past her to reach the exit.

''Just one more thing!'' Laila exclaimed with her finger raised.

I stopped and swung around to face her again. ''Yes?''

''One last rule. Unsuitable behavior or snarky comments will be punished by a round in the box. Offender against a bunch of seniors. Just mentioning it so you'll be prepared for what's waiting if you do something you're not supposed to do.'' Laila warningly explained, her eyes really giving the signal to keep the bad actions out of this place.

''I understand.''
