[E]

As soon as I had ended the call with Eric, I waved Alison over. Hanna left after we said goodbye. Alison was the only adult who knew about the situation between Steven and I so it felt necessary to ask her about what I should do next.

''Is everything alright?'' Alison asked as she approached me.

I led her away from the crowd of people that occupied the corridor and into a smaller space around the corner. ''My lawyer just called.'' I said lowly.

Alison's gaze flickered and I noticed how she immediately thought the worst. ''What did he say?''

''I don't want to talk about it here. Do you think we can go somewhere more private?'' I suggested. The risk of someone unauthorized hearing us is too big here.

''Of course.'' Alison agreed. ''Do you feel comfortable at Micah's apartment?''

''Comfortable enough.'' I determined. Without wasting another second, Alison and I walked through and out of the mall hand in hand. I was thankful she didn't bother to ask any questions until we were far away from everything else.

Alison had driven the car here so the ride back to the apartment did not take longer than a couple of minutes.

''What about Micah? How is he going to get home?'' I asked when she parked the car outside the building.

Alison glanced at me and smiled. ''If I'm not mistaking, then I'm pretty sure he'll spend the day with Noah.''

''His boyfriend?''

''Something in that direction. I probably would have called him his sugar daddy, rather than his boyfriend. But don't tell Micah I said so.'' Alison said and got out of the car. I did the same and jogged around the car to pick up the blonde on the go and swept her off of her feet as I carried her inside the building. ''Em! Put me down!'' Alison screamed in horror, but with a laugh hiding behind it.

''Nope. You deserve to be carried.'' I said and stepped into the elevator with her hanging like a cheese arch over my right shoulder.

''How should i interpret that? Sounds more like a crappy pick-up line than a compliment.'' Alison chuckled.

I gasped. ''Are you offending the woman who's holding you up? Do you know how easy it is for me to just throw you off?'' I teased and felt how her body tensed up.

Alison gulped and clung to me like a koala. ''Don't you dare drop me!''

''I won't.'' I laughed and smacked her ass as the elevator doors slid open and I carried her down the corridor, all the way up to the door.

''Do that one more time and you'll regret it.'' Alison warned.

''Do what? This?'' I smacked her ass again and then put her down right afterwards. The eyes I became face to face with could kill. From one second to another I barely managed to blink before she had me pinned up against the wall right next to the door. ''Damn girl.'' I breathed out.

''You are so begging for it.'' Alison said between gritted teeth. This side of her is such a turn on, but I forced myself to keep it low since we have a couple of things to discuss before anything like that can happen.

''Punish me all night if you want, but I think you want to know what the lawyer said before we jump to those things?'' I pointed out and removed her arm that were roughly pressed up against my throat.

''Right.'' Alison casually replied and unlocked the door. We walked in and once I had closed the door, I got attacked by a pair of soft lips. Her body weight pressed me up against the door and I grabbed each side of her face to deepen it. Alison smiled in victory when we pulled apart. ''Now I'm ready to listen.''

I chuckled and took off my outerwear before I entered the living room and sat down comfortably on the couch. Alison sat down on it as well, but on the other end with her attention directed at me. ''Alright so.. What he said, to shorten the story a bit, is that two of the cases has been closed down.''

Alison hitched up an eyebrow. ''Isn't that a good thing?''

''It is.'' I confirmed. ''But the third case is very forthcoming. Apparently the victim has two witnesses going against me in court.'' I sighed and scratched the back of my neck. ''But my lawyer said that there's a possibility to create some sympathy in the courtroom if I..''

''If you what?'' Alison impatiently asked.

''If I tell him about my situation at home.''

''I see.'' Alison mumbled. ''You're scared of telling him about what Steven has done to you through the years.''

''Yeah. If I tell him he'll tell everyone is that courtroom and I will have ruined my mother's life in a heartbeat.'' I rubbed my eyes tiredly. I was so sick of this. Couldn't this nightmare just end?

''I get that, Em.'' Alison supportively said and scooted closer to me on the couch to grab my hand. ''But you have to prioritize and decide what's best for you. I think deep down you know that what's best for you will also be the best for your mother. Imagine how it'd change both of your lives for the better. He's treating her like garbage too. He deserves to be in jail, Em.''

''I know.'' I breathed out. ''I'm just scared that mom will not agree with my choice and kick me out of her life.''

''Why on earth would she kick you out for helping her get the life she deserves? And if she does, then it's her loss. You know you have a place to stay, so don't be afraid of telling your lawyer the truth. You must think about your future and less about what everyone else thinks.'' Alison tried to knock some sense into me and I listened. I always did listen to her.

I nodded in agreement. Alison was right. I knew she was. But I had always been trying to make everyone else happy with my choices, so most of the time I forgot about what I truly wanted. But this time I knew what I wanted. I wanted to graduate from Jeffersons with good grades, I wanted to talk to a psychologist about my anger issues, I wanted to create a future for myself and most important, I wanted to spend my future with the people I love.

I took a deep breath to collect myself, then I picked up my cellphone from the front pocket of my jeans and dialed the number that I knew would determine my future.

The signals came, and I began to feel dizzy from how nervous I was.

''Eric Patowski.''

''Hey, Eric. It's Emily.''
