The Next Day

[E]

I had just arrived at the train station and was now waiting at the platform. Any minute now I'd see a train appear from west and on that I knew a familiar face would be waiting to throw herself in my arms. When I woke up this morning I thought about texting her and tell her not to come, but I woke up too late. This night had been so good and when I woke up beside Ali with her slightly cuddled up to my front I couldn't stop smiling.

Alison went to her brother's condo after we ate breakfast together. Thankfully my mother had already went out when we peeked out from my room and it was no sign of the evil stepfather, so the first breakfast with Alison was actually quite peaceful and calming.

But I won't spend this Saturday with her. The plan is to see her again tomorrow and I can't wait. I miss that smile of hers so much already, and we parted for no more than fifteen minutes ago.

A loud signal occupied my focus and it almost felt like I had to cover my ears to not become hearing impaired. Right after the signal had stopped, the train was spotted coming into the station. It stopped next to the platform and the sound of altered air pressure was heard before she doors slid open and out came a bunch of people with suitcases.

Among these travelers was a familiar brunette who smiled hugely at me as our eyes met. She picked up her suitcase and ran towards me, then jumped into my arms when we were about two feet apart. I never thought I'd regret my earlier thoughts about canceling this, but I was actually happy to see Sarah again. It's only been a few days, but you can always use a friend.

''Oh my god I've missed you so so much!'' Sarah cried against my shoulder. I chuckled and held her up for a few more seconds, then put her down so she'd be back in contact with earth. ''Guess what? I brought something very special with me.'' Sarah enthusiastically remarked and walked back to the train carriage she came from. I curiously followed behind her and grinned widely when I realized what she meant.

A very dizzy blonde named Hanna stumbled out of the carriage holding a bottle of beer.

''Hanna, come on. We're here, you can stop drinking now.'' Sarah rolled her eyes and held her arms around the blonde to keep her up on her feet.

''Wow, France sure is nice. But I don't see the Eiffel Tower. Did you lie to me?? Does it even exist??'' Hanna slurred and squinted her eyes at me. ''Heeey!! Emily is here! Why is Emily here??'' Hanna whispered very loudly to Sarah, who just sighed.

''You brought Hanna with you.'' I clarified with my arms folded and a grin covering my face.

Sarah nodded, but looked like she regretted her choice. ''Now I'm thinking about ditching her here though. When I, after much nagging, accepted Hanna's prayer I didn't realize she'd drink every beer they had in the dining carriage and become a drunk mess.''

I laughed and went to help Sarah hold Hanna up. ''Hey, Han.'' I casually said.

''There's my beautiful cookie!'' Hanna shouted, then started to squeeze my upper arm. ''Ouch, have you been working out? Hihi now you're my fit cookie.'' Hanna giggled.

Luckily, the hotel they were staying at was only two blocks away from the station. You might wonder why I wouldn't let them stay with me, but I can't demand that of my mother. Especially not after all the trouble I've caused already.

''Let's get us checked in, dump Hanna in the room and then do something fun, please?'' Sarah said painfully from the other side of Hanna.

''Totally.'' I agreed.

''Can you please stay on the couch this time?'' Sarah exhaustingly told Hanna, who just whimpered in return. ''Guess I'll find out how it ended when I get back here later.'' Sarah shrugged and went to go get her purse. ''Please save me, Em.''
