Chapter 16: Progression

It was late in the afternoon. Within the headmaster's office, Ozpin leaned back on his chair as he took a sip from his mug. Glynda stood near his desk as she notifies him of recent events and plans during the Vytal Festival. The sound of the elevator ding paused Glynda as they turned to the doors. When they opened, Mars walked out and made his way to the headmaster.

"Ah, Mars. What brings you here?" Ozpin asked.

"Just a visit." He said. "Also babysitting a little girl. But I let Robin take over so we can talk."

"You brought a child here?" Glynda questioned.

"It's not what you think. The girl snuck onto a ship I was on and now I'm watching over her for the time being."

"Hm. So what exactly do you wish to speak about?" Ozpin spoke.

Mars looked to Glynda for a moment before turning back to the headmaster. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue jewel. Ozpin seemed intrigued upon seeing another jewel much like Argent while Glynda could only look in confusion.

"I suppose you know what this is, don't you?" Mars questioned.

"The jewel, Azure, I presume?" He guessed. "If I recall the tale of the Hero King, Azure was held by a woman named Tiki, who fell into slumber upon the Mila Tree which once resided in Menagerie. Since you've presented Argent before, I don't suppose you're planning on giving that to Robin."

"For now, no." He pocketed the jewel. "These jewels hold powers that are given to the holder. I only gave Argent to Robin as it is capable of protecting her."

"So what does Azure give?" Glynda asked, now understanding the discussion.

"It increases its holder's abilities. Though, I've yet to understand how it actually does that." Mars explained. "I found Azure while I was in Menagerie. For now, the other three jewels, Gules, Sable, and Vert have yet to be found. It's only a matter of time before they start to look for them."

"With all due respect, Mars. Perhaps if you're trying to gather these jewels before some other group finds them. Shouldn't you be out there now instead of being here?" Glynda pointed out.

"Do not worry. Each of them may be scattered across the continent, but they are protected." He said. "Argent was given to me by my late mother. She did her best to guard it with her life before I took her place."

Ozpin sat up straight upon hearing this. If Argent was passed down from Mars' mother, then why would he give it to Robin? Could Mars also be part of the royal family of Ylisse he mentioned before? If so, then what are his connections with Robin? Before Ozpin could say anything, the sound of jet engines roared from outside. Turning around and getting up from his chair, he looked out the window along with Glynda and Mars.

Just outside of Beacon, a large airship landed onto a landing pad as a few bullheads flew by. Glynda crossed her arms as she looked to the airship.

"Ironwood certainly loves bringing his work wherever he travels." She said.

"Well, running an academy and a military makes him a busy man." Ozpin stated. "But yes, those are a bit of an eyesore."

"And here I thought Atlas couldn't be much different from Valm..." Mars murmured.

A sudden holograph appeared from Ozpin's desk as it beeped. The headmaster then turned to the elevator.

"Come in." He spoke.
