Twenty Reasons Why

*Day Eleven*

Annabelle POV

Today is the day of Dylan's funeral. I am obviously giving an eulogy, as his one and only sibling. And I'm bringing my friends with me. I realize some people may not like eight eighteen through twenty year olds at the funeral, but frankly I don't give a damn. He was my only brother and I lost him, I need some moral support. If they don't like it they can piss up a flag pole.

"Hey, princess. You ready to go?" Ashton asks and I look at myself in the mirror.

"Yeah." I whisper.

"You're going to do great, I can tell."

"I'm going to be an emotional wreck, but thank you anyway, Ashton."

"Nope, you'll do great."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." Ashton opens the door for me that is already filled with my six friends, laughing, but when they see me, they stop.

"Uh, hey, Belle." Milly says.

"You guys don't need to get quiet. I'll be fine if you laugh." I climb into the car as Ashton climbs into the drivers seat.

"We're really sorry for you, Belle." Luke says.

"Everyone is." I mutter. The ride to the church is silent. When we get there though, I wish the ride was longer.

"Alright, we are here." Ashton says and we crawl out. Michael and Jenna give me hugs, Meghan mouths to be, 'it's gonna be alright', Calum and Amelia rub my back, Luke gives me a reassuring smile, and Ashton holds my hand on the way in. I don't pull away or anything, it's a good reminder that he's here. And I like him, so...

"Oh, Annabelle, honey." My mom says with tears in her eyes. I let go of Ashton's hand and hug her. "You brought a posey."

"Mom, these are my friends. This is Amelia, Michael, Meghan, Luke, Jenna, Calum, and Ashton."

"Why were you holding hands with that Ashton boy?"

"Because it was reassuring. It doesn't matter."

"Why are they here?"

"Why do you ask so many goddamn questions?" I walk away from her and sit down. My friends follow me and soon they're next to me. Ashton takes a seat on my right side, and Jenna is on my left. She's on the end. Next to Ash is Meghan, next to her is Calum, then Luke, then Mills, then lastly, Michael.

"What was that-" Jenna is cut off my the pastor speaking.

"We have gathered here today to celebrate the life of Dylan Jenkins. He was taken down by the horrible disease of cancer. He was a young lad, and will be missed greatly. His sister will now speak. Annabelle," He looks at me and smiles, "The floor is yours."

"You'll do great." Ashton whispers to me and kisses my cheek. I walk up the pulpit and smile. I look at him and he smiles and gives me a thumbs up.

20. Good friend

"Dylan was a good brother, a good person. A good friend. All around, he was good. He had a good life. And isn't that what funerals are for? To celebrate a good life? We are here to celebrate Dylan and his life. Mom, you were crying earlier. You shouldn't have been. We should be smiling that we still have all these memories with Dylan.

"I will admit to it, I did cry. Dylan's last words were 'I love you, Belle'. That broke my heart. I brought my friends for moral support, and I'm happy they're here. But as I was looking at myself in the mirror this morning, I realized, why am I crying? He died happily. Cancer isn't painful, so it's not like he was suffering. Like, yeah, the treatments are painful, but we should be happy he's done with that. With cancer, there's an outcome of one of two ways. You either survive, or you die. I would have loved for him to survive, but it didn't work out that way. That is how life is.

"He's in Heaven, where there is no sadness, no pain, no suffering, nothing harmful, no cancer. Just laughs and smiles. And I guarantee to you, right now Dylan is smiling. He would not want us crying, or mourning, or whatever. Dylan would want us smiling. I'm going to try to do that. Yes, I miss him and I wish he was still here. But I got eleven great years with this kid and I couldn't be happier because of it. So, please, join me and be happy because of all the years you got with him." I smile and walk off the stage. The crowd applauds and I sit down next to Ash again.

"That was great. Your face resembled what you were saying. You looked upset, but not like you were going to look yourself in your room all day. Good job."

"Thank you." He kisses my cheek again and I blush.

God, he's so cute.

A lot of other people talked, but I didn't really pay attention. I wanted to, I really did, but I just couldn't. I was thinking about Dylan. Before he was sick, while he was sick, when he told me about how much he hated cancer. Everything. They were all good memories, of course.

"Now, we will bury him in the church cemetery outside." The pastor says. I'm really religious, and neither are my parents, but my grandparents are, so we just figured we could do it here.

We mov outside where there is a pre-dug hole. His casket is slowly lowered into the hole while the pastor blesses him.

"May God bless you with a peaceful eternal life. And may the Devil not summon you to Hell." The pastor says and his casket is being refilled. I let a tear slip down my cheek.

"Uh, thank you all for coming. I am very glad you could all join us to celebrate the life of my only son." My mum says and people start to leave. I go as well, and my friends follow. Ashton puts an arm around my waist.

"That wasn't too bad. I think your speech, Belle, really helped people." Meghan says.

"Thanks, Meg."

"She did a good job, didn't she? Her speech was awesome." Ashton asks the group.

"Yeah, she was great. She did a good job." Michael says.

"Thank you, guys." I say.

"So, princess, would you like to get ice cream?" Ashton asks me. We get to the car and we all file in.

"Yeah, sure. Where are we stopping?"

"Oh, it's just like five minutes from here."

"Okay." We drive for a few more minutes and then we pull up to an ice cream place. We get out and walk in.

"Hello, what can I get you guys this morning?" The man behind the counter asks.

"Two scoops of chocolate in a cone please.

"Two scoops of cookie dough in a cone."

"Two scoops of of cookies and cream in a cone please."

"Two scoops of strawberry in a cone."

"Two scoops of chocolate in a cone please."

"I'll have a cookie dough, too."

"Same as hers? Two scoops in a cone?"

"Uh, yes please."

"Two scoops of vanilla in a cone please."

"Two scoops of chocolate in a cone again please."

"Alright, it'll be out in a minute." We stand out there until the man comes back with three other people each holding two of them. We take our ice cream of choice and sit down.

"This is a good way to end a bad morning." I say.

"Ice cream fixes everything."

A/N: omg hi.

So, I'm in Texas. Its really cool here. And I'm getting ice cream. ((that inspired the last part)) it's much hotter in October that it would be in October in Pennsylvania.

I flies for the first time. I started out in Philadelphia, flew to Nashville, had a thirty minute interval there, then flew to San Antonio.

UPDATE! I'm listening to Strong by One Direction.

Hope you enjoyed! See you next update!
