Seventy-One Through Seventy-Five Reasons Why
*Day Twenty-Two*
Annabelle POV
"Hey, babe, you almost ready?" Ashton asks. Ashton and I are still at his house. Today is Saturday, the day of the barbecue that was so famous. I am almost ready, I just need to finish my mascara.
"Yeah, just about. Give me a few more seconds." I finish it, and put it away back where it belongs; my makeup bag. I walk out to Ashton's room from the bathroom connected to it. "I'm ready!"
"You look great, Belle." He pecks me lips quickly and takes my hand. "Follow me." As he's guiding me through the house, I can already hear music and talking erupting from the back. "The whole neighborhood comes, basically."
"Is Calum, Michael, or Luke going to be there?"
"No, they don't live in the neighborhood. Calum lives the closest to me, but he's even too far."
"But they do live in Sydney, right?"
"Oh, of course." We finally make it to the back where there has to be eighty people, at the least. "Welcome, Annabelle, to the Annual Barbecue. It's always the Saturday before Christmas. Don't ask me why cause I don't know." He's still gripping my hand as he quickly gives me a kiss and pulls me towards the crowd.
"Ashton, boy! How've you been at University?" Someone asks him, a man. Thirty or so with brown hair.
"Good, I've been great. I'm loving it."
"What are majoring in?"
"Music history."
71. Conversation is easy
"And who is this?" The man points to me.
"Oh, this is Annabelle, my girlfriend. Annabelle, this is my neighbor, John."
"Hi, John, it's nice to meet you." I kind of hide behind Ashton because I'm nervous with all these people here.
"You got yourself a pretty one, huh?" He laughs and pats Ash on the shoulder.
"Yes, I did." Ash agrees and looks at me without turning his head. I blush and turn away.
"Alright, well I'm going to go back to Caroline. Have fun you two." John laughs and walks away.
"Is it okay if we go and socialize, or would you rather just be with each other?" Ashton asks me.
72. Eases me into new people
73. Thinks about what I want first"No, it's fine, we can go meet people." I say and he's pulling me towards people. We talk to dozens of people, and they all want to know who I am. I shake many people's hands. Some of them talk to me, others just say hi and continue their conversation with Ashton. He's nice to them all and he knows all of their names.
74. Likes everyone
After about a half an hour of talking, socializing, and playing games, Anne calls me over to where she is.
"Belle, honey, will you and Ashton please help me?" She questions, looking desperate and busy.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware you needed help."
"No, no, it's not you. I thought I could do it with our neighbor, but there's more people than I expected. I told the kids they didn't need to help, but now I need it. Will you please go get Ashton?"
"Of course, I'll be right back." I say. I walk over to Ashton and take ahold of his arm. He's talking to some girls, about six or seven.
"Hey, Ash, sorry to bother you, but your mom needs our help."
"There's that girlfriend I was talking about!" Ashton says and hugs me.
"You were right, Ashton, she is pretty." One of the girls says.
"I like your hair!" Another mentions.
"Thank you." I smile.
"Oh, you mentioned my mother. What did you say about my mom?" Ash smiles at me.
"She needs our help."
"Alright, I'm coming. I'm sorry girls, but Super Mom needs my help. I'll talk you lot later." Ashton smiles and starts to guide me towards his mother again.
75. Willing to help
His mom needs us to take the food from the kitchen, to the table outside. Easy enough. I pick up the potato salad and a bowl of chips and start walking outside, guiding myself through this large crowd, with Ashton following me. Once we get to the table, we place the food down and go back. In the kitchen, I ask him something.
"Hey, Ash? What did you mean when you told the girls that Super Mom needs your help? Who's Super Mom?" I ask him, picking up deviled eggs and hotdog rolls.
"Oh, yeah, that would be my mom. She's Super Mom."
"Why is she known as Super Mom?"
"Well, really the only people that call her Super Mom would be the younger ones. Like, kids ten or under. Everyone else calls her Anne or Mrs. Irwin." It's kind of hard to hear him because of all the people, and he's behind me, but I manage to focus on his voice only. "They call her Super Mom because she's been running this, the Annual Barbecue, since I was three. Seventeen years, usually with only the help of one other woman. Obviously, as you can tell, there's a lot people here, and she never let's anyone leave hungry. She's in like, thirty places at once. So, her nick name was born."
"That's nice. A lot of work, I would assume."
"It is a lot of work, Annabelle. She stresses about it for weeks before it starts. She likes it, though. She loves doing it."
"She didn't seem stressed one bit at dinner yesterday or this morning." I mention. We get to the table, place the food, and go back for more, still weaving our way through the large crowd.
"There's two reasons why for that. One: Most of this was already organized so there was nothing to stress about. Of course, she was still kind of stressed, but most of it was gone. And two: She's really good at hiding stress. You should have seen her in November."
"Was it bad?"
"Yes, yes. It was really bad."
We continue to help his mother with getting the good out, then we eat. Everything we eat was delicious, and just like Ash said, no one is hungry at the end. After about another two hours, everyone is gone and out of the backyard. Ashton, his siblings, Anne and me all watch at movie after we've finished cleaning up.
After not too long, I find myself in Ashton's bed, curled to next to him, drifting away.
A/N: heyyyy
ok, I had an ortho. appt. today, the first one. I got the mold of my teeth done, AND I ALMOST DIed. For the top I'm gagging like crazy, focusing on my breathing (out of my nose, like that lady said) and I'm trying to prevent myself from puking (I have the worst gag reflex ever) so I almost bite off that lady's fingers. it was horrible. it was bad. I didn't like it at all.
Also, I left school early (!) and I was there for a while, around the end of it I was like six or seven ppl grok my school like whAT IS THIS.
UPDATE! my lips are chapped and they really hurrrtt. save me.
Hope you enjoyed! See you next update!
