Ya-nee,

I'm doing well. You wouldn't believe this, but I've met a dragon. Isn't that incredible? Don't worry, he's too young for me, and I'm quite sure I'm not his type. I have a surprise for you, by the way. Just wait a little while, you'll see.

Despite Macau's lights and glamour, a part of Sakura was expecting the Yinglong's temple to at least look like a temple. The temples she knew of ranged from simple shrines, with little to no ornamentation, to elaborate palaces meant to honor various deities, but the latter usually belonged to the bigger and vainer characters, traits that she wouldn't have associated with a dragon famous for heeding the requests and prayers of the mortal world. Yet even that would have been less shocking than the modern reality.

The 'temple,' if one could call it that, was set atop one of the city's tallest and brightest skyscrapers. Half of the floor was open air, bursting with gardens and decorative koi ponds and tiny delicate pagodas that were more gazebo than anything else, with flattering views of the greenery, fish and skyline. A stone bridge, complete with carvings of guardian dogs, extended over an artificial stream which marked the border between the covered and uncovered halves of the floor. On the other side of the bridge, glass and metal reigned supreme in a modern business office setting. Even the decor was cold—abstract paintings in black and white, glittering text scrolling across translucent panels of glass, vases that seemed to be made entirely of twisting rebar. The walls themselves sparkled gold, as if precious metal. Compared with the gardens, Sakura wasn't sure if the opulence was meant to be artfully contrasting or violently jarring.
