To Tavia:
Just reporting in. Business as usual. Nothing suspicious or unauthorized has occurred. Please make sure Redbud knows that.
Your favorite brother named Octavius
"Maybe you should rethink this."
"I won't." August said firmly, redoing his tie...for the third time.
"Yes, you're stubborn, I get it. Can't help but wonder if it's a family trait." Tavius rolled his eyes, hands in his pockets and looking the exact image of a concerned brother. Except he wasn't stopping August; Tavius planned to come along, in fact. "Somehow or another, I only have one brother. Would hate to lose you." He'd said, by way of explanation.
Libby, meanwhile, had been too obsessed with Sonya to spare either brother any concern.
Fussing with his necktie a fourth time, August turned to Sonya, who had relocated to the foyer and was sitting cross-legged against the wall. "Are you ready?"
Libby had provided Sonya an oddly benign glass of milk and cookies as sustenance, their lack of disgusting qualities a mystery of its own. Mouth wrapped around one such cookie, which she hadn't attempted to exorcise, Sonya nodded. On the floor before her, she had a black marker, which she had used to draw a simple magic circle. With one hand, she picked up her staff and awkwardly tapped the crystal topper against the center of her drawing. "Don't freak out." She said, voice muffled by her food. "Just relax."
