chapter 15- Expedition

Your horse is named Frankel by the way.

To say that Y/N was amazed was an understatement. She was amazed at the thought of being able to ride through wall Maria but was saddened by the idea of the countless lives lost, the soldiers who were never going to make it back into the safety of the walls, and the masses of refugees from years ago that were never to see their family again.

Another emotion that Y/N was struck with was fear. She was terrified of what could happen during the mission to herself or her comrades. Y/N looked at the group that was surrounding her, her friends had her back, and she knew that she would be devastated if anything happened to the group she called her family.

After a while Y/N looked behind her to see how Eren was doing, she had taken on the role of her mother and felt like she needed to protect him, or she would have been left to deal with a fuming Mikasa. As she was looking behind her, she noticed green smoke go off in the distance.

"Oluo, pass it on!" Levi ordered, Oluo shot off a flare right before a messenger rode over to the squad.

"Reporting, sir!" He yelled to get the captain's attention. "I have a verbal message! It appears the right-wing spotters have been wiped out! The early warning network has been compromised!" The messenger informed.

Y/N looked at Eren in shock, she knew that Armin was situated in the right-wing and Eren would be anxious about him at that very moment.

"one of you will need to relay the message down the line," The messenger continued."You heard the man petra, go on," Levi directed."Sir," she replied before breaking away from the group.Y/N was left alone with her thoughts for a second before she noticed black smoke. "That doesn't look good," she mumbled to herself.

"An abnormal," Eren stated before Levi ordered him to fire a signal, which Eren followed.

"What a disgrace," Levi muttered, "a lot of good the formation does if the bastards can bore into it that deeply." At that moment Eren was able to fire off the signal.

'There's a bigger picture then what we have been told," Y/N thought to herself, 'the formation was planned in a way that we wouldn't have had to engage in combat with most of the titans, which means,' Y/N brought her hand up to her chin. "Something, no, someone must have lured a bunch of titans into attacking the formation, but why?" Y/N questioned out loud.

"Wow Y/N, you are quite perceptive when it comes to this sort of stuff," Petra stated after she returned to the group.

"I guess I just started to think out loud," Y/N replied.

After a short amount of time passed, the group was making their way through a forest after another change in route.

"Captain, Captain Levi," Eren said, trying to get a response from the man he was calling for.

"What?" Levi replied.

"Come on, Captain, we're in a forest," Eren said.

"Wow Eren, we didn't notice," Y/N replied sarcastically.

"Shut up Y/N, we won't see a titan until it's right on top of us, that's what I'm trying to say," Eren declared. "The centre rank's totally cut off. Something's coming up on the right, isn't it?" Eren realised, "so what are we supposed to do, avoid titans or defend the wagons?" Y/N was starting to get annoyed at her brother's non-stop talking.

"Quit whining and move on from the obvious already, neither of those is an option anymore," Levi told Eren, earning a satisfied smile from Y/N as he was able to shut her brother up for a second.

"what are you talking about?" Eren queried.

"Haven't you noticed what's around you? take a look at these big ass trees," Levi announced.

"It's the perfect environment for ODM gear," Y/N explained on behalf of Levi.

"Exactly, Y/N is right. Now take my advice Eren, calm down and use your head, the best survival tool is your brain," Levi finished off, earning a "Yes, sir," from the youngest scout.

"It doesn't make sense, what are we doing here? There's gotta be a reason. I mean, they know, right? they gotta." Y/N looked over at Oluo, who had just quietly asked the question before she noticed Eren looking around at everyone in confusion.

"Eren, calm down," she whispered to her brother, "I'm sure that captain Levi knows whats going on at the very least, don't let the others distract you, keep focusing on the mission at hand."

"I'll try, it's just a little disheartening to think that the most elite soldiers in the survey corps have no idea what's going on," Eren whispered back. Suddenly, another flare went off from within the forest. "Black smoke," Eren explained.

"It's right behind us," Oluo growled.

"Damn thing's been on our asses since we came in here," Eld said, keeping an eye on the direction which the smoke came from.

"Blades drawn, now!" Levi ordered, the squad hesitated but followed his order and unsheathed their blades. "It will happen in the blink of an eye, be ready." Y/N looked behind her and saw a soldier looking back at the path they were on when in the blink of an eye, he was slammed against a tree, blood splattering everywhere from the impact, and from the darkness of the trees emerged a titan, but not just any ordinary one.

This one was showing intelligence.

"Go! Move it!" Levi ordered, making everyone ride faster, Y/n noticed the terrified expressions of the squad before she saw that the female titan had moved to the side of the group.

Y/N was lucky enough to pull at the reins on her horse to avoid being crushed by the titan's foot.

"Shit, hurry up Frankel, or we'll lose the squad," Y/N yelled after noticing the distance between her and the group, "If something were to distract her, I would be able to catch up," she thought out loud.

More soldiers came to attack the titan, Y/N tried to warn them about her intelligence, but they either couldn't hear, or they didn't want to listen. She overheard the soldiers in Levi's squad pleading with the captain to answer their questions, but no avail.

"I just need to focus on joining up with them soon," Y/N said when she heard Levi talk.

"everyone! Cover your ears, now!" He ordered, Y/N noticed a flare gun in his hand, she covered her ears just in time to see him pull the trigger.
