On the way to the ice-skating rink, we jam out to our favorite songs singing along. I take all the high notes while Evan takes all the low notes. We have the windows rolled all the way down and music blaring. Some people join in on the goofiness and others just shake their heads, but we don't care.

We arrive at the skating rink place in a little over an hour later. I jump out of the car and impatiently wait for Evan.

"Come on come on come on! Let's go, slowpoke!"

Evan chuckles, "alright alright. I'm coming Mrs impatient."

I stick my tongue out at him and skip inside with him behind me. We order our skates and start putting them on.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay in just a sundress? I have a change of clothes in my car that I can let you wear."

I give him a look. "Evan, I've been skating bare armed since I was 3. I'll be fine. Besides, your clothes don't fit me anyways and they would fall off of me while I'm skating."

He laughs. "Yeah, you got a point there. Alright, you ready?"

I finish tightening my skates and lacing them and nod my head. We walk out onto the ice and I head for the middle. Evan skates around the outside with the rest of the people and I start doing an old skate routine that I taught myself in the middle. My hair feels heavy in the braid, so I take it out and let my hair flow freely in waves. I begin skating again and doing the routine. I shut the rest of the world out but am still aware of the other people still on the rink and just do tricks and spins. I feel my dress and hair floor with every spin I make.

Evan comes and joins me, and we spin around together in the center. I laugh at Evan because he gets dizzy and almost falls down. He playfully glares at me and begins laughing too. I feel someone staring at me take a look around. I notice a guy who only looks maybe a few years older than me and he's just staring me down. I decide to be nice and wave at him. He waves back but gives me this creepy smile.

I turn back to Evan and catch him watching my actions. "Do you know that man Cali?"

I shake my head. "No, I don't. It's just that he was staring awfully hard at me, so I waved to be polite. I was hoping to catch him off guard, but he didn't seem to care."

Evan eyes the man suspiciously then pulls me to the other side of the rink. "Don't leave my side for any reason, understood?"

I look at him worriedly. "Evan, what's going on?"

"Just promise me Callista!"

I cower away from the harshness in his voice. "Okay Evan, I promise."

He relaxes and we continue skating. I'm a little on edge due to Evan's sudden mood change and I don't want to skate anymore. "Evan, can we go home now?"

"Yeah. I don't like the looks of these men. Let's go."

We skate to the door of the rink and we exchange our skates for our shoes. I thank them and we head back towards the car. I'm in front of Evan because I'm in a hurry to get away from those guys. I hear a thud behind me and turn around to find Evan on the ground with the back of his head bleeding.

"EVAN!" I scream and run over to him. I turn him over and see him unconscious.

"No no-no-no. Evan, please wake up. Don't leave me here!" I start to panic as I fumble for my phone. I call 911 and tell them what happened but then I'm cut off by a hand clamping over my mouth. I drop my phone and begin to struggle in my attackers' arms. I bite down on his hand and he drops me. I try to scramble away from him, but he grabs my hair and pulls me back. I let out a cry of pain and frustration. He turns me around so I'm facing him and slaps me. The slap is so hard that I begin to see spots in my vision. He lets go of my hair and pushes me down. I try to catch myself but I end up face down on the pavement.
