Chapter 33

When I woke up, my right hand was in Luke's and my left was gripping his hair. At last I could open my eyes and see. As I looked up I saw Luke's tears again. Bright red eyes, a puffy nose, and even his lip was trembling. He hadn't noticed I woke up until I released my grip from his hair and placed my hand weakly on his cheek. I just had to touch him. To let him know I was here. He looked up, almost in shock.

"Paige, ca-can you see me?" I nodded slowly and gave him a faint smile.

"Do- do you know who I a-am?" He asked in a whisper. I nodded again and opened my mouth to speak.

Nothing came out.

I tried again.

Nothing.

Panic rushed through me as I tried once more.

Nothing.

"Relax, baby. You're gonna be okay. You got your hearing back, right? This could come back too. But you're okay, Paige. I-I was so scared, I thought you wouldn't live to see another day. But Paige, you made it. You're so strong." He whispered. He placed his forehead against mine as I pecked his nose.

"Love you so much. So so much." He muttered, shutting his eyes.

I tried once again to speak, and finally.

Finally, a word came out.

"Love." The word came out in a deep groan sound, but I didn't care. Luke's head shot back as he looked at me with the biggest smile on his face.

"Paige you did it! Try again, love. Say something else. Say your name. What's your name?" I opened my mouth and tried as hard as I could to answer him.

"P-pa-.... Pag-pai... Pa-paige." I let out a sigh of relief and smiled.

"Paige." I whispered. Luke grabbed my waist, pulling me into a hug. Out of the corner of my eye, a door opened and a short nurse with blonde hair stepped in.

"Hello Paige. How are you feeling?" Her voice reminded me of the nurse that came in before.

"Shannen?" I asked. She gave me a polite smile and nodded.

"Yup! I assume your vision had come back. How's your head feeling?" She commented. I nodded as Luke sat down in the chair beside me.

"Fine." I answered. My speech was still coming back and I don't know if I would even be able to answer in a complete sentence at the moment.

The nurse eventually told me that I had had a seizure and that everything looked okay. She told me that I had to refrain from physical activity and that if anything happened that I was unsure of, to come to the hospital or call 911 immediately. My speech had almost fully come back by the time I left the hospital and got back at Luke's place.
