I can't believe my first year is ending. Since Professor Dumbledore punished Flint, he's basically disappeared from the Great Hall. I wrote Dumbledore a thank you note and asked Professor Sprout to give it to him.
I'm still mortified I got caught in a fight outside his office, well really more of an attack it seems as I never got punished for that.
"And then I heard Professor Quirrell burst into flames at his touch!" Cedric exclaims, making all the other boys gasp in horror. Anna leans closer to me. "Didn't he say yesterday that Quirrell melted?" I chuckle. "Probably. It's Cedric. He knows how to captivate his audience."
Dinner drones on. They award the house points. They award Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger all extra points. But I think I cheer the loudest when Neville gets some. Of course these last minute points put us in last place, but we're not super competitive so we just enjoy the food and say our goodbyes.
As I leave the Great Hall, I hear, "Hey, Lot." I turn to see Seamus and Dean. "Couldn't leave without saying goodbye?" I smile widely. "Never." Dean says charmingly. "Just wanted to wish you a good summer." Seamus says with a grin on half his face. "Enjoy your holiday, boys." I say as we wave goodbye.
In the morning, I part ways with the girls. Hugging and smiling and hoping we can be roommates next year, because we really didn't have issues.
Then Cedric and I all get on the train to go home with all our stuff. Cedric buys lots of candy to keep himself occupied but I'm distracted by the view of the water. It's crazy how comfortable I got being so far from Britain.
At Platform 9 3/4 I hug Anna goodbye. While Cedric rushes over to Cho to say something quickly before she runs off to her parents. "What was that about?" I tease. Cedric rolls his eyes. "Geez, it's not as if I kissed her goodbye." I look at him with my knowing stare. "All right. All right. You win. I told her to write to me." I snort.
"It's not funny." Cedric pouts. "Alright. Sure, whatever you say." Suddenly my dad appears with Cedric's dad. "Hi sweetness!" he says as he scopes me into his arms. "Hi Dad! I'm ready to go home."
"Won't you miss Hogwarts?" Amos asks. I nod and finally answer honestly. "I will, but I like having two homes."
We say our goodbyes to the Diggory's and head back to the house. My parents ask all sorts of questions about what I learned and the friends I made. I found myself a lot chattier than I was at Christmas. "Well someone missed us." Mom joked as I swallowed another bite of dinner. "Yes, because now I get it." Both my parents look up. "Get what?" Dad questions. "What you talked about for all these years..."
"I understand what it's like to be a Hufflepuff."
