"Anna

"Anna." I whisper out. I can tell she's mad from her stance. Arms folded. Frown on her face. Hair pulled back, which she only does when she's in a slight panic.

"I woke up and the 3 of you were gone like it was the damn apocalypse." Susan looks down in shame.

"And I'm here wracking my brain but every excuse that could have pulled you away in the middle of the night, but none made any sense considering you didn't wake me."

"Anna, please listen. We'll tell you where we were. We can explain." Hannah cuts in.

Anna backs up and sits on the trunk at the end of Susan's bed, because that was the closest to the door. "You just really scared me." she breathes out. I move quickly to sit at her side.

"This may sound weird." I start. "But we were performing a séance."

Anna looks up to face me. "What?" Hannah moves to sit at her other side and Susan lays down on her own bed, but lays with her head near us.

"We...well, we thought we could attempt to get in contact with your aunt." Anna's eyes go wide. "The spirits say she's alive." Susan says gently. "What?" Anna repeats. We all take a second the air seemed to be getting thicker with anticipation. "I can't believe it." Anna breaths out.

The look on Hannah's face tells me, we've decided to leave out the 'alive but barely' part. "Tomorrow morning, maybe we can go see Dumbledore and explain the situation. If the ministry isn't going to take this seriously maybe he will." I suggest.

Anna just nods her head. "This is a lot to take in. Why don't you rest a bit and then we can talk in the morning." Hannah says noticing Anna's fragile state. Anna once again just nods.

I walk her over to her bed. I pull the sheets up and tuck her in. Hannah and Susan climb into their beds, looking exhausted. I start to walk to my bed, but Anna gently tugs my wrist. "What would you have done if...if the spirits didn't say she was alive?"

I sigh and sit on the side of Anna's bed. "Honestly, I don't know....I wouldn't have lied to you about it. I know that. Our intention was never to lie about any of this, we only wanted to do the séance to help. And we figured if there was hurt coming your way, maybe it would be easier coming from us. But that sounds stupid now, I'm sure." I mumble.

There's a beat. "No, you're a good friend, Lottie. Thank Merlin I found you."

I squeeze her hand. "It was actually Susan and Hannah's idea. I'm just the psychic, remember?"

Anna chuckles. "I remember."

"Get some sleep, Anna." I release her hand and climb into my own bed. My eyes closing as soon as my head hit the pillow.

About a week later, life looked different. We got Professor Sprout to get us a meeting with Dumbledore. After explaining our concerns, he said he would look into it. As we walked out, Hannah said she dropped a book and was able to sneak back and tell him that due to the spirits deduction of 'barely alive' that it was urgent.

Surprisingly we were not punished for our séance other than the lack of 50 points. Most of the time kids cannot keep track of who earned a House points or who lost them but there were plenty of rumors flying around that it was us, although nobody knew why.

"He's staring at you." Susan says Saturday morning at breakfast. I look around. "Who?" I turn and face the Gryffindor table.

Seamus is all decked out in red and gold. There's a match this afternoon between the underestimated badgers and the mighty lions. He's looking at his friends and laughing but when he feels my stare, he looks up. I almost panic, but then give a little wave instead. He shoots me a charming grin, the kind that takes up half a face.

"Cedric." Susan says, bringing me back to reality. "Huh?" I utter turning back to the table. "Cedric is staring at you." she repeats. I look down the Hufflepuff table and sure enough he's staring but as soon as we make eye contact he looks away. "Oh joy." I mumble.

"Hey Lot, you ready for your big comeback?" Justin says as he slides down next to me.

Anna comes in and sits next to Susan. "Yeah, I'm super excited. Of course I wish it wasn't raining because we all know how well that worked out for me last time." I joke.

"It's not funny. You are not allowed to fall again." Anna says shaking her head. She was quiet for the first half of the week, but after seeing Dumbledore I think she felt better that an adult would take this seriously.

I look under the table and see Justin has extended his feet out and his and Anna's ankles are interlocked. Interesting.

I don't know how much she shared with Justin, but I know he could tell something was off with her so he just stayed close to her side until she perked up. Which she did.

"Is that why Cedric is staring at you?" Justin asks me. I raise my eyebrows at him. "Because it's raining, so he's all freaked."

"Yeah, that's probably why." I say to Justin.

Although truthfully, I never know what is going on in his head anymore.

I was fixing my hair in the Hufflepuff tent when Cedric came in. I figured now was my chance to talk to him. So before he could start a boring captain speech I yank his arm away from our teammates. "What is wrong with you?" I blurt. Okay traditionally not the best start.

"What? Nothing." he says defensively. "Well you keep staring at me and that can't happen during the game so pull it together." I snap. "I'm pulled together, you are just..." he trails off.

I raise my eyebrows. "I'm sorry I fell off my broomstick. Okay, I am. But all my mistakes are not your tragedies. I am fine, I got my rest. I'm ready to play. Are you?" He looks shocked. "Yes. I am ready." he practically growls. "Great, let's start."

He stalks off to give the other players a teamwork speech. And I finally catch my breath. I can't believe I said all of that.

The Quidditch game ended pretty quickly. I managed to catch the snitch but it is truly only fair to point out that a huge part of that had to do with the dementors coming too close and almost killing Harry Potter.

Cedric tried to deny the win and insist we play again in better weather and without the dementors, but Madame Hooch wouldn't have it. I felt bad. I only wanted to play fair too.

As we walk back to the common room, Anna is huffing like her normal self. "Typical. How typical is it that Hogwarts is suppose to be the safest place in England and every year we all almost die."

"Don't be so dramatic, Anna." Susan criticizes us from a few steps back. She and Ernie MacMillan have been talking about some advanced class all day. Truthfully I thought Ernie fancied Hannah, but she didn't exactly fancy him back. Couldn't tell you who Hannah liked at the moment.

"Well, that's enough adventure for me." Anna says as we reach the Hufflepuff common room. "Not for me." I joke. "I'm always going to be looking for trouble."

"Ain't that the truth." Justin says as he flopped down on the couch. The 6 of us spent the rest of the night talking, laughing and hanging out by the fire. It was the start of our new lives as real teenagers. And I for one, was going to take that win.
