Once Professor McGonagall announced there would be a Yule ball, it was all anybody could talk about.

The Yule Ball was supposed to be on Christmas Day, so naturally everyone over Year 4 (that is who was invited) was staying. One Saturday, while the girls and I were in Hogsmeade we decided we would get our dresses together for the ball.

As we tried them on, we giggle and spun around and just complimented each other unless the dress was horrendous. Which some were. Too many beads or too much fluff.  Susan tried on a gown that was covered in feathers.  "Oh Susan those feathers still smell like bird, put that back on the rack." Anna says and even Susan had to agree.

"Hannah, has anyone asked you yet?" Luna questioned once Hannah had pick out her dress. "Yes, actually Ernie McMillan asked me." She told Luna.

We were all well informed on the manner. Basically Hannah had wanted Neville to ask her even if they were just friends, but Neville asked Ginny Weasley.

When Ernie asked Hannah, she asked if she could think about it because she was sure Susan wanted him to ask her. However, once Susan declared she was wholly uninterested- Hannah went back and said yes.

I wonder if guys understand girl code.

Luna, who was too young to attend, was trying to play catch up. "And Anna, I assume you are going with Justin." Luna questioned.

The other three of us groan in unison, knowing Anna is about to set in.

"Oh you would think so. Right? Like hello who else does he hang out with? But no. He has not gotten off his ass to ask me. Like can you see him bringing another girl? Have you seen him talk to another girl? Why would he spend so much time with me if that's not the direction he's going for? Hmm?"

I shake my head. "Do you want me to ask him if he plans on asking you?" I suggest. Anna tosses her chosen dress on the counter along with mine, (since my parents sent us money for them; we can pay together.)

"No, no. That's alright. He's his own man. He can make his own decisions."

Susan spins around. "He is hardly a man."

I snort and pay for our stuff. "And Lottie? Any special guys?" I shrug. "No, Cedric said he would save me a dance if he could. But he's going with Cho obviously and this year has been so crazy with the tournament, I haven't really been boy hunting."

Hannah spins around and wraps her arms around my neck. "There is always time for boy hunting."

On our way out of the shop, we see Dean, Neville and Seamus standing outside Honey-dukes. I immediately blush. "I guess Anna's not the only one waiting to be asked by a certain someone." Luna whispers in my ear.

"That's ridiculous." I fib. "You could ask him." Hannah suggests. "But what if he's asked somebody?" I worry. "Lot, just go talk to him and maybe give him a push." Anna says.
