The week didn't exactly go as expected. They let me out on Tuesday and I returned to class on Wednesday. Every class was so awkward, I felt like everyone was staring at me.
And because everyone was staring at me, I barely had time to converse with my friends...more specifically Seamus. I didn't know what I should say. But it had to be something fast.
Most of the time, I was using the girls to hide behind. Justin and Ernie had also been sitting with us at dinner and they shoved off nosey first years.
Although brave of them, I only had my eye on one boy. Seamus's laugh seemed to fill a room. I couldn't help but steal glances at him when he was with Dean and Neville.
We started to meet in the library to do homework. Just me, Seamus, Hannah and Dean. It was nice. To get away from people.
"Thanks for what you did for me." I whisper to him one day. He blushed and shrugged it off like it was no big deal.
I hadn't felt great the Thursday we were suppose to perform the séance. So we had pushed it until Sunday night.
But Friday something weird happened. "Did you hear?" Justin asked us at dinner. "Hear what?" Susan asked.
Justin slipped onto the bench. "The Fat Lady- you know the portrait that guards Gryffindor's common room- she's gone." Anna scrunched up her nose. "Who would steal a painting?"
"No, not the painting. Just her. The portrait is empty. They think it's Sirius Black. Here in the castle." All the girls and I gasped.
Sure enough, the announced at dinner that we would all be sleeping on the first floor. The girls and I said good night to all the boys and then got mats and rolled them out on the ground. It wasn't long until Luna found us and laid her mat near ours. So did Lisa and Mandy. Despite their being in the same house, apparently they didn't know Luna that well so we all kinda kept to ourselves and blamed it on nerves. But even if we weren't talking I was grateful the rooms were divided by just boys and girls, not houses, because I would take as many friends near me tonight.
"Lot, if they send us home..." Anna starts. "Then you're coming with me. No doubt. My parents already have given you an open invite for the next 5 Christmas's and summers." Anna smiled and curled into her mat. "Do you guys think he's really in the castle?" Luna asked in a hushed whisper.
"No. no way. Not with all the dementors." Susan insisted. "Security will be tighter now." Hannah mumbles. "That's a good thing, Han. Don't sound so sour about it." Anna laughed. But we were all thinking the same thing.
The séance.
Crap.
Classes went on. We visited Hagrid and Buckbeak. "You girls better say your goodbyes." Hagrid told us sadly. Buckbeak nudged into my shoulder. "Why what's wrong?" I ask.
