Cedric and I haven't talked since our spat last night

Cedric and I haven't talked since our spat last night. Sitting in the Great Hall, Hannah asked if I was alright at breakfast. I sigh. "I don't know. Cedric and I had an argument."

"Oh no."

"What happened?"

"Are you alright?"

I look up at Anna, Susan and Hannah and smile. I realized how much I missed being with my best friends. I used to have no friends except Cedric and my mom. But now life was different. I had girlfriends.

"Yeah, I guess we're just growing apart. And it feels weird, but...I don't know if  I can fix it." I rub my thumb over my other fingers. A fidgety habit of mine.

Hannah rubs my arm. Susan sighs. "It's a boy/girl thing. We don't think the same way." I shrug. "I said something I shouldn't have though." I say woefully. Hannah smiles. "Words said in anger are never the full truth. You'll just have to wait for an opportunity to apologize."

Anna snorts. "Or you could like not be such a softie and make your stand and wait for him to apologize." Susan chirps in. "How do you know he needs to apologize?" Anna shrugs. "Because he's the boy. Boys spend one third of their lives apologizing."

I squint. "Is that true?" Anna just nods confidently, but soon all 4 of us are laughing. Getting weird looks from everyone at our table.

I'm desperate for a change in topic. "Let's discuss something cheerier, yeah? Anna, I love your hair." Anna beams. Her once bob cut has grown down to her shoulders and she has a flowery headband on. "I'm trying for an earthy look." Susan makes a face. "You have a different look everyday." Hannah giggles.

Anna rolls her eyes. "Let's get to class. Don't want to be late on the first day!" Anna cheers, ignoring Susan in a playful way.

Anna and Hannah have Charms with me first. "I think it's funny our names rhyme." Hannah says to Anna as we walk. "You're weird." Anna says lightly. I start to lag behind the two of them and I feel a tug on my robe. I look up immediately hoping it's Cedric. But instead I see Justin.

"Oh hey!" I say. "Lottie. Ladies." he says smirking at Anna and Hannah (oh I guess they do rhyme). "You guys off to Charms?" We nod. "Me too, I'll join you." Anna blushes. She obviously thinks he's cute. She blushes like that when she sees Dean Thomas too.

The 4 of us arrive and I immediately notice how far Seamus is sitting from everyone else. Most of the class is here and Seamus is on the far end of the lecture circle.

Justin, Anna and Hannah put their stuff in a row that is right in front of Dean and Neville. "Good Morning." Dean says sleepily. "Morning." Hannah says politely. "Why is Seamus so far away?" I ask since it's on my mind. Neville waves is arm. "He's all sensitive, because Dean joked if Seamus sat with us that we better not lose our eyebrows again this year."

Anna gets comfy in her seat, while I pick up my bag. "Where are you going?" Hannah asks. "You guys can stay here. I'm gonna sit with him." I say without a second thought. Justin looks at me for a second, before sitting in between Anna and Hannah.

It's easy to make my way to Seamus, because the room is lecture style so I just have to walk around the circle. I know Seamus has a history with accidental fires, but I feel bad that it's left him stranded on the far end of the room.

He doesn't look up as I approach

He doesn't look up as I approach. He's flipping through a book with a pouty look on his face. I set my bag down gently and slide in next to him. He finally notices me. "What are you doing?" he asks confused. I can tell he's already hit some puberty. His voice is slightly deeper and he's gotten taller.

I smile. "Oh sorry, can I sit here?" He shakes his head. "No." I make a face. "Seriously, Lottie. I don't want you to lose your eyebrows." I shurgged. "How could I lose them? They are on my face." He grumbles. "You know what I mean."

I start to take out my stuff. "Not particularly. I sat here for the good company." he softens a little. "Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

Seamus and I pass notes back and forth during class. Seamus tells me Neville put his robe on inside out and is waiting to tell him. I shouldn't laugh but I do. I tell him that Hannah is already sneaking plants into our dorm room. And we continue class like that listening and then passing notes and whispering.

I always pay attention, but something tells me Seamus needed this today almost as much as I did. And something about that brings me unbridled happiness.
