"You did it?" You nodded, not having the energy or willpower to speak. You had been crying for the last few hours, ever since you had to break Robb Stark's, and your own, heart.
"It's for the best. And your family will be given the land, as promised."
"Thank you, Lady Stark," you manage to say, your voice shaking. You hear her sigh from her spot next to you.
"You understand why I had you do this, yes? If Robb does not wed a highborn lady, all of our bannermen will retaliate and Robb will end up dead, as would you."
"I understand, Lady Stark."
And you did. You had known from the beginning that your relationship would most likely be doomed but you were enjoying it while you could. It wasn't until your family was about to lose the land that you had grown up on that you realized that someone else knew about your relationship, Catelyn Stark. She approached you when you were on your way home, saying that she could make it so that your family kept the land if you did something for her.
It was a terrible decision to make. Save your family's land, or be with the man you loved. Despite what your heart had told you, you made the deal with her. The money you made working at the keep wouldn't do anything for your family in the long run, it just wasn't enough.
"Good. I will have your duties in the keep changed." You cover your mouth as a sob threatens to come out. Taking a deep breath, you lower your hand, trying to stay as strong as you can. As terrible as this is for you, you did choose this for your family, something that you are repeatedly telling yourself.
"Thank you-" you start, only to be interrupted by the doors of Lady Stark's chambers being thrown open.
"Mother," he says, sounding very angry, only to stop when he sees you. You stand up quickly, Lady Stark following closely behind you. "What is this?"
"Robb-"
"What is going on here," Lord Stark asks, stepping around Robb and into the room. He looks between everyone, a confused look on his face.
Your body is trembling as you try to keep yourself from crying more. But seeing Robb right in front of you and not being able to touch him is torture. Even the way he is looking at you is completely different. He's reserved, cold almost, something that you haven't seen in him before.
"Is this her?" Robb looks at his father and nods his head slightly. "Explain what is going on," he says, directing it to you.
"Yes, my Lord. My family was going to lose our land, we had a few bad crops in a row and couldn't afford taxes. Lady Stark said that if I..." you pause, looking over at Robb with tears in your eyes. "She said that if I ended my relationship with Robb that she would make sure my family would keep our land." The room is silent as Robb and Lord Stark take in what you said.
"Is this true Cat," Lord Stark, finally breaking the silence, asks.
"Yes, but it was only to protect you, Robb. A relationship with a commoner wouldn't work out."
"Who are you to say that," Robb asks, stepping forward. "You don't even know Y/n. She is a wonderful, caring, kind, thoughtful person, something that I have convinced father of." Robb walks over to where you and Lady Stark are standing and grabs your hand gently. Your breath hitches as you step even closer to him, so your bodies are practically touching.
"What is he talking about Ned?"
"He told me of his relationship a while ago. He has been trying to get my permission to wed her. And I finally gave my permission early today." He turns towards you and Robb. "I think the two of you have some talking to do."
Robb pulls you out of the room and behind him. You aren't very sure where he is taking you at all, the shock of what Lord Stark said clouding your head. He got permission to wed you. The things he said earlier, of the possibility that his parents could be okay with it, makes more sense to you now. He knew that he could wed you.
"Y/n," Robb says, breaking you out of the state that you were in. Looking around, you see that he has taken you back to his chambers. "Why didn't you tell me of your families problem?"
"I was going to. But your mother came to me when I was leaving, and it wasn't until I was home that I realized that we were days away from being without a home. And then I couldn't say anything until I knew if I was going to agree to the deal, and it took me time to decide. My family needed me though, just as your family needs you. And the things she told me made sense, they were things that both of us knew but never said and the way she said it made it seem like you were to be wed soon."
"Father mentioned to mother during supper that he had a possible person for me to wed." He sits on his bed, tugging me down next to him before running his hand through his hair.
"I'm sorry Robb, I am so sorry that it happened the way it did."
"Y/n, I understand why you did it. As much as I hate to admit it, if something happened to my family and I had a chance to help them, I would do it." You sigh, wiping tears from your face.
"What happens now," you ask, looking down at your lap.
"Now, I ask you to become my wife." Your head shoots up as you stare at him with wide eyes.
"What?"
"This isn't how I wanted to ask you, but the events of today have made something very clear to me. I can't live without you. Just thinking that I wouldn't be able to feel you in my arms ever again was torture. I want you by my side, forever." He gets off of the bed and onto the floor on one knee in front of you. "Y/n, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, the future Lady of Winterfell?"
Without a second thought, you are on the ground with him, your arms were thrown around his neck. He wraps his around your waist pulling you closer to him.
"Yes. And I promise Robb, no one in the Seven Kingdoms will ever take me away from you again."
