Chapter Fifteen: We Aren't Who We Are

When they met in class the next day, everyone was crowded around Ren and Apollon. Mitsuko was blinking in surprise. Both Ren and Apollon's shackles had broken and disappeared.

"You seriously got unshackled?"Hiromi asked them. Apollon grinned at them.

"Yep! Try hard and you'll be able to do it too!"Apollon told her. Mitsuko gave him a slightly annoyed look. Takeru noticed and snickered from his spot. Her gaze whipped over to him and he quickly resumed his grumpy and stoic face. She frowned hard. The memory of what had happened between them the other day rushed through her head. She blushed and turned away, spotting Ren sitting still and quiet. She was staring at her desk silently, a look of confusion pulling at her. Apollon suddenly fell quiet, looking at her. His eyes slid to Hades and Dionysus who were quiet behind him. Hiromi frowned.

"What is it?"She asked. Apollon jolted. Ren stayed silent, looking away. She sighed hard.

"When my shackle broke..."Ren trailed off, stopping. Everyone gave her weird looks. She sighed and stood up. "Girls. Come with me." The girls all exchanged looks, confused. She started towards the door. The girls quickly hurried after her, leaving all the guys in the classroom, blinking after them. They all stayed behind, knowing it wasn't right to wait behind them. Ren lead her friends outside. They frowned, watching her as she stopped in the garden. She looked back at her friends.

"What is it, Ren?"Hiromi asked. She crossed her arms.

"Seriously, what's going on?"Eri asked. Ren sighed, looking down.

"Something weird happened when my shackle came off. I wanted to talk to everyone about it, so I told Apollon and Dionysus and Hades to keep quiet about it,"Ren murmured. Mitsuko frowned. She kept a secret from us? She wondered. She crossed her arms. No, Ren-chan was just waiting until she could have a chance to tell us herself. She didn't want them explaining it in a way we couldn't understand. 

"What is it?"Ume asked. Ren sighed and looked away.

"Lily...what's up?"Mitsuko asked, clearing her throat. Ren looked down. She closed her eyes and looked down. All of a sudden, the wind picked up. The girls watched as a strange swirl of blue sparkles covered her. The girls all shielded their faces, waiting for the wind to die down. An unidentifiable feeling filled the air, surprising the girls. After the wind died down, the girls all looked at their friend. Ren was standing in front of them, her hair longer and her headband gone. She had blue eyes that almost glowed as she gazed at her friends. Her outfit was a blue dress with a shawl that hung off her arms. She had a wand in her hand, with a blue gemstone embedded in it. The girls all stared at her. Mitsuko was breathless. She's...changed.... 

"Ren..."Hiromi muttered. Her friend looked down at herself.

"I'm not sure...why this happened, but when my shackle broke..."Ren muttered. Her brows pinched together. She was almost glowing as she stood there. Glowing brightly. Mitsuko swallowed. She glows...like a....

"Goddess,"Mitsuko whispered. The girls whipped their heads towards her. "You're a goddess, Ren..." Ren shook her head.

"I couldn't be, I'm not a goddess. I'm human. I was born human. I wasn't even adopted,"Ren told her. Her friends all stood still, looking at her in surprise. Hiromi clenched her fist. She turned. "Hiromi?" She started walking off, headed to find Zeus.

"Hi-chan, where are you-"Mitsuko started.

"I'm going to get answers!"Hiromi exclaimed, whirling back around. She looked at everyone. "I'm going to Zeus." She turned back around and walked off faster. Mitsuko cast a look at Ren and the two of them took off. The other girls ran after them as well. The whole time, Ren had to pick up her dress to try and keep up. As they rounded the hall, finding the boys leaving the school, all of them gazed at the girls in surprise. Their eyes especially went wide at the sight of Ren in her new form.
