Chapter 128

They arrive at the station and Jaidan looks at Kye, a little nervous. Kye looks determined, pushing the door open and heading in. Jaidan follows, staying close behind him. The women they had talked to on the phone was sitting at a desk at the front as soon as they walked in. Kye clears his throat, speaking to her. "I called in about the kidnappings." The women looks up and smiles warmly at him, standing up and gesturing to Jaidan. "Is this the victim?" Jaidan just stands there, hanging his head and turning it slightly away from her. Kye nods. "He is."
The women looks at Jaidan and nods. "Both of you follow me. We're going to have our medical examiner take a look at him." She walks towards a door. Jaidan stares at Kye and he shakes his head, not wanting to go. Kye puts his hand on Jaidan's back and shoves him towards the door. "You'll be fine." Jaidan stumbles forward, wincing but then following the woman, checking behind him to make sure Kye had followed. Kye was indeed following, looking around the station suspiciously. The woman holds the door open for them. Jaidan hesitantly goes in. Kye goes in afterwards. The woman shuts the door and gestures to a young man who looked to be about 23 years old. "This is our medical examiner. His name is Dr. Davis. He'll be the one examining you." Jaidan frowns, looking at the man. The woman then leaves. The man smiles at him, gesturing to a table. "You can sit there." He looks at Kye and points to a chair next to the table. "You can sit there." Jaidan sits on the table hesitantly. Kye sits in the chair, crossing his arms and putting his leg over the other. Dr. Davis goes over to Jaidan. "Could you please remove your clothing? You can leave your undergarments on." Jaidan looks at Kye, looking a little scared. Kye rolls his eyes and gestures for him to do it. Jaidan hesitantly takes off his hoodie and pants, staring at the ground. Dr. Davis' eyes widen and he looks really concerned. "Um.. I'm going to have to call you an ambulance.." Jaidan shakes his head vigorously. "No! I'm not going to the hospital!" He frantically looks to Kye. "Tell him I'm not going!" Kye shrugs. "He's been fine so far. Ish." Dr. Davis sighs. "Just calm down. I need you to go to the hospital." He examines Jaidan's ribs and then his leg. "You definitely have some broken bones. I just need you to have them checked out by a doctor with better expertise on this." Jaidan was breathing heavily and shakily, his eyes wide with panic, staring at the ground. Kye takes a breath. "He didn't want me to tell anyone else about this for some reason, is there any way we can post pone this and continue without it?" The doctor sighs and shakes his head. "I'll get in trouble if I don't make him go to the hospital in his condition." Jaidan moves away from the doctor, moving towards Kye. Kye huffs. "This isn't needed! Just don't mention his condition to anyone who asks!" The doctor notices Kye's skull as his hair shifted and he walks over to him. "Hey. Can I look at your head?" Kye tenses. "..Uh.. ..No.." even with his hair covering parts, close up it was obvious the wound and it's severity. From under his His left eye socket to the boney section right below his temple and swooping at an angle beside his nose to his forehead and all the area in that section his skull was completely bare and unprotected, his eye still resting in his socket, yet without its eyelids or any skin at all around it or protecting it. The doctors eyes widen and he attempts to gently move his hair out of the way. Kye flinches, allowing this knowing he already had seen it, so there was no point in hiding it. Jaidan was sitting on the table still but he had moved to the edge so he was next to Kye. The doctor frowns. "What happened? Are there any other wounds?" Kye had his ears folded against his head nervously, and his hand instinctively moved to his ribs on the left side of his chest, and his right leg behind his left. "N-No.. no more..." The doctor notices this, he seemed like he genuinely cared. "I know you're lying. Please show them to me." Kye sighs, frowning, knowing he wouldn't let this go and wanting to just get it over with, he winces as he leans down, and pulls up his pant leg, not wanting to show his ribs as he knew that was the worst one he had. The bone on his leg right after his knee was completely showing from his skin, still being surrounded by muscle and the rest of the leg being in tact, but that bone still
Completely unprotected in its most vulnerable area. This had been why he'd had such a bad limp for several years, as he'd never even tried to get any of these wounds looked at, let alone helped. The doctor frowns and kneels down. "These are really bad.." He looks up at him. "You grabbed your chest as well. I want to see it. Please." Kye sighs shakily, really not wanting to. "C-Can't we just not worry about me..? This isn't what we came for.."
The doctor shakes his head. "I want to help you. I can help both of you." Kye takes a deep, Yet shakey breath, looking away and closing his eyes as he pulled his shirt up, his ribcage on the left side of his chest being completely visible all around, front side and back, with his organs also visible, including his heart, all of them just barely being held in place, it being obvious that if he fell or was hit the wrong way he could end up dead with very little effort. The doctors eyes widen even more and he falls back. "W-What happened?! I-I can see your insides!" Kye put his shirt back, looking uncomfortable and a bit scared. "I-I... Mmf.. You wouldn't believe me if I told you.." The doctor stands back up, trying to not freak out but wasn't really succeeding. "Y-You- T-That's horrifying!" Jaidan looks at the doctor and then at Kye, putting a hand on Kye's back and rubbing it softly, trying to make him feel better, trying to push aside the fact that they hated each other. Kye stares frowning at the floor, clutching his arms together. "It's been like this for over two years... they don't heal..." The doctor shakes his head. "I-I.. C-Can I at least wrap them with something..?" Jaidan continues to rub Kye's back, whispering to him. "It'll be okay.." Kye sighs shakily, shaking a little. "S..Sure..." The doctor grabs some bandages and goes back over to Kye, sighing shakily and kneeling back down to start on his leg. "Lift your pant leg up again please.." Jaidan pulls away and sighs, grabbing his clothes and putting them back on, not liking sitting there without them on. Kye lifts it shakily. The doctor starts to wrap it, doing it tight but being very gentle. Jaidan goes back over to Kye and continues to rub his back. Kye kept his eyes locked on his leg. "Why doesn't it heal...?" The doctor finishes and looks at him. "I don't know what happened so I can't tell you.." He stands up. "Lift your shirt.." Kye intakes a breath and lifts his shirt. "I'm not sure me telling you would clear anything up.." The doctor sighs and nods slightly. "Alright.." He starts to wrap his chest, being even more gentle with it but still wrapping it tightly. Kye flinches a little, just the pressure hurting, which was to be expected. The doctor sighs and finishes, moving closer to him and moving his hair out of the way again, staring at his skull, seeming to really feel bad for some reason. Kye notices this. "Why are you looking at me like that..?" The doctor shakes his head. "It's nothing.." He starts to wrap his head. Kye frowns more, simply sighing as looking away. The doctor finishes but lingers where he was, running his fingers through Kye's hair softly, not even realizing it. Kye looks confused, slightly uncomfortable but oddly comforted at the same time. "..Um.." The doctor snaps out of it, quickly pulling his hand away and stepping back. "S-Sorry!" He looked really embarrassed. Jaidan raises an eyebrow at him. "Uh- No, no! It's- Its Okay!" Kye said, laughing it off awkwardly. The doctor looks away from him. "You just remind me of someone.. That's all.." Kye tilts his head slightly. "Oh.." The doctor sighs shakily, just staring at the floor, sadness filling his eyes. Kye clears his throat. "W-Well.. um... could we move on to the case...?" The doctor looks up at him and nods, looking back at Jaidan. "I still need you to go to the hospital. It's really the best thing for you." Jaidan frowns, sighing, giving up on fighting it. "Okay.." The doctor nods. "I'll go call and tell them you're coming." Jaidan nods. The doctor walks into a different room. Jaidan looks at Kye once he left, whispering. "I wonder who you remind him of.." Kye sighs. "Yeah... I dunno..." Jaidan sighs. "Maybe you could ask him..? Because he seemed really upset about it.. Maybe you could help him out or something.." Kye nods. The doctor walks back in a few minutes later. "You're all set." Jaidan looks at Kye and nods, getting up and leaving the room. The doctor stood there awkwardly, staring at the wall. Kye looks at him. "Hey.. Uh, you said I reminded you of someone.. who was it..?" The doctor freezes. "What..?" Kye stops, realising that might not have been the best way to approach that. "Y-You Don't have to tell me, I... I was just curious.." The doctor lets out a shaky breath. "No, No.. It's fine.. He was um.. We were close.. He passed a few weeks ago.." Kye frowns. "Oh... I'm.. so sorry.." The doctor sighs shakily. "He was amazing.. Um.. His name was Josh.. I just.. I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable.." Kye shakes his head. "No, no! You didn't.. I was just a bit surprised, is all.. um.. how did I remind you of him...?" He looks back at him, smiling a little. "He was also a demon.." Kye tilts his head. "Aha... oh.. is that all?" The doctor sighs. "He was like you.. He was a Kitsune.. I um.. I-I loved him.." Kye smiles a little. "Heh.." The doctor shakes his head. "I'm not gunna make you listen to me. You can go if you'd like." Kye gives an awkward laugh. "No, I can um... I can wait a bit..." The doctor smiles a little, going over to him and sitting on the table next to him, sitting really close to him. Kye sighs. "So... what was he like?" The doctor smiles a little more. "He was really sweet.. He loved everyone.. Um.." He frowns. "We um.. Adopted a little girl.. She's only 3 years old.." Kye raises his eyebrow. "Oh. I see.. what's her name?" The doctor sighs. "Ava. And I'm Ethan." Kye smiles a little. "Ha, Ethan's my best friend's name!" Ethan smiles back, pausing for a moment before leaning forward, putting a hand carefully on the back of Kye's head and attempting to kiss him gently. Kye flinches, but wasn't able to pull away before he got there. He flattens his ears against his head, not wanting to make him feel bad by shoving him away, but not kissing back. Ethan closes his eyes for a moment, before pulling back and looking away. Kye looks away as well, looking distraught. "E-Ethan, I..." Ethan's face goes red. "S-Sorry.. I-I.. I just.. Mmf.." Kye takes a deep breath. "I'm gunna go.." Ethan looks at him again, his eyes watering a little. "I understand.." Kye gets up, stopping at glancing at him, before giving a sad huff and walking out, looking for one of the peacekeepers. Jaidan was waiting right outside the door and smiles at Kye. "How'd it go?" There was a peacekeeper near Jaidan. Kye was frowning. "It doesn't matter. Let's focus on finding more information." Jaidan puts a hand on his back. "Hey.. That can wait.. What happened..?" Kye flinches. "Nothing. Nothing happened. I really just don't wanna talk about it." Jaidan sighs. "Well I'm not going to leave you alone about it so you might as well tell me." Kye huffs. "He kissed me!" Jaidan looks really confused. "What..? Why..?" Kye looks away. "I reminded him of his late boyfriend." Jaidan's eyes widen. "Oh.. Um.. That's.. I'm sorry.." Kye stares at the floor. "Just- lets move on." Jaidan sighs and nods, going over to the peacekeeper who was near them. The peacekeeper looks at them. "Yes?" Jaidan looks to Kye for him to tell him.  Kye sighs. "We're looking into the mysterious kidnappings. We were wondering if we could get a list of the victims." The peacekeeper nods. "They already told me. Have you seen the medical examiner already?" Kye immediately looked annoyed. "Yes." The peacekeeper nods, going and grabbing a list and bringing it back, handing it to Kye. Kye takes it, looking over it, and nodding. "Thanks." The peacekeeper nods and walks off. Jaidan looks at Kye and then heads out, him trying to walk in front of Kye, holding an arm around his chest because the pain had started to get worse. Kye stayed walking behind him, reading over all of the victims and as he was noticing his limp was a tad better, frowning as he realised why, and almost wanting it not to be. The name Ethan Davis was on the list. Jaidan stops near an alley, going in a little and leaning over, gripping onto his chest, coughing up blood. Kye saw this, narrowing his eye in confusion. "What the..." he then looks up, seeing Jaidan and dashing over to him. "Woah, Hey!" Jaidan shakes his head, leaning against the wall, blood dripping down his chin as he continued to spit it out. Kye put his hand on his back. "Bro, are you okay?!" Jaidan looks at him, panting and he shakes his head slightly before leaning back over and coughing up more blood, groaning in pain. Kye frowns, not knowing what to do. Jaidan eventually stops coughing, sliding himself down the wall and sitting there, just letting the blood drip on the ground. He looks back up at Kye after a moment, talking quietly. "J-Just go see what you can find out.. I-I'll be fine.." Kye looks skeptical, but steps away, sighing. "I'm gunna Come back to get you if you're not home by the time I get back.." Jaidan sighs shakily. "Y-You can take me to the hospital when you get a chance.. I-I'm done with this.." Kye frowns. "I'll just take you now.. I can go out when I know you're safe there.." Jaidan nods, using his sleeve to wipe the blood off his chin and then sticking his arm out for Kye to help him up. Kye takes it and pulls him up, heading to the hospital. Jaidan follows him shakily. Once they get there, Jaidan gets a room and he looks to Kye. "Hopefully they'll give me some pain meds or something and then I can leave.." Kye gives him a small chuckle. "I don't know about that.." Jaidan sighs. "Yeah.. I know.. But.. Will you come back and stay here with me when you're done..?" Kye smiles a little and nods. Jaidan smiles back. "See you in a little while." Kye nods, and heads out again.
