The second that I saw Ashton’s face the next day, I knew that something was wrong. But whenever I tried to ask him about it, he wouldn’t say a word. I wondered if Elle had hurt him, but then again, she was way too sweet.
History was the only class that I had with Luke, he sat in front of me and we usually spent most of the boring class goofing off, Our elderly teacher, Mrs. Patron, had no interest in teaching the class, and it showed.
The bell rang for class and we all popped down into our seats.
"Okay, class," Mrs. Patron said. "Today I will be putting you in pairs for your project on the Romans. You will have the rest of the period to work, and then you will have to manage your own time from then on."
I looked around the room at the different partners I could potentially get. All of my options were pretty bad, besides Luke, who was playing with his lip ring, and Meg, who was rioting in a journal with her head down.
"I will call out your names," Mrs. Patron stood at the front with her clipboard. "Luke and Chris."
I looked at Luke as he spun around, his face twisted into a look of complete horror. Working on a project with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend? It was a recipe for disaster.
Mrs. Patron then matched up two football players, a football player and a cheerleader, and then a nerd and a druggie.
"Meg and Michal," She than said. My heart stopped and I looked over at her smiling. She smiled at me too, and then went back to her work.
Once Mrs. Patron finished calling out names, I watched Luke slowly walk over to Chris an begin his torture. Meg came straight to me.
"Hi," She said, journal under her arm.
"Hi," I grinned. "So, should we talk about our project?"
"Yeah, let’s go sit." She replied.
We pushed two desks together, I jotted down some notes about what we were going to do for our project. She kept glancing up at me every once and awhile.
"Why do you keep looking at me like that?" I asked, I hadn’t stopped smiling since we had been paired together.
"Oh, sorry. You just remind me of someone I know," She giggled.
"Who?"
"Somebody mysterious," She laughed. "It’s funny, I don’t even know his name or what he looks like, and I think I’m in love with him."
"Who?"
"You’re gonna think I’m a stupid little girl with a crush."
"No, I won’t." I shook my head.
"The Mike-Ro-Wave." She blushed.
Oh my God.
"The superhero guy?"
She nodded, then the bell rang for lunch. “I’ll see your tomorrow, Michael.” But I couldn’t say anything, because I was still in shock that she actually cared about me.
