Dan and I went to look for Phil, eventually finding him in his room looking for something. Dan and I don't even want to know what he's looking for but whatever it is, he's really trying to find it. We walk back to the kitchen and laugh at how Phil was an organized mess.
"Phil's room is a complete disaster," Dan says.
"You have some say, Mr. Howell."
He laughs. "You're right."
"Hey, you hungry?"
"Yeah, I'm starving."
"Okay, I'll make something for all of us."
So that's what I do. I gather all the ingredients and put them all on the counter. Dan walks over at me and asks what I'm making. I tell him that it's a secret. He grunts and walks away. Most likely going on the sofa and browsing through Tumblr.
I laugh and start making something my mother used to make me when I was younger. Surprisingly, I still make this because it was the only good thing my mother either did or made.
I make it and it takes about an hour to complete. I'm about to call Dan and Phil, but as I open my mouth, they're already sitting on the stools waiting for the food.
"You two and food." They both laugh as I give them their food.
They both take their first bite and they moan as they eat it.
"What the hell is this? It's so good," Dan says with a mouth full of food.
"It's a type of Calzone my Mother used to make me. Her mother used to make it for her when she lived in America."
"Oh," Was all that Phil said.
"Yeah, it was the only thing that she did well for me. This was my favourite dinner and might still be."
"I have to agree with you. This is super good. It was worth the wait." Dan smiles, his dimple showing.
We all eat and decide we should head to the park. I mean, it's nice out and it would be a nice time to go somewhere. We all walk down the street and Phil runs towards the swings. He's such a child.
"Why are you such a bloody child Phil?" I ask, laughing slightly. Dan laughs beside me.
"The real question is, why aren't you?"
I shake my head and sit on the swing next to him. Dan does the same on my side. As he sits though, Phil runs away and goes somewhere else. Dan and I decide to not run after him and that he'll come back if he needs us.
We converse about different things and we always ended up laughing about something stupid. One of us would make a joke then laugh and then that would make the other laugh and so on. It was consistent and it caught on to me after a while.
"Dammit Dan. I have a headache now," I say, giggling.
"I'm sorry I'm funny," He jokes.
"You're really not. I just have a headache from the heat."
"Wouldn't I have a headache from looking at you then?"
"What?" I ask, confused but smiling.
"It was a cheesy line. Don't mind it. It was stupid."
I thought about it and it hit me. He called me hot. I felt my face flush with colour and I don't think he noticed.
I snort at how cheesy it was.
"What?"
"I realised what you meant by the line. And what I did just now is what I call the embarrassingly awkward snort."
He laughs at my attempt at being funny. So I would guess it worked then.
"Wow, Y/n L/N being awkward. That's a new one."
"Yeah it is," I say awkwardly again, making him laugh.
"Wow, today's an awkward day for you."
"I guess so," I say a little sadly.
"What's wrong?" Dan asks, looking at me.
"Nothing."
"Don't lie to me."
"I'm not!" I say defensively.
"I know there's something wrong Y/n. I can tell."
"There's nothing Dan. I promise." I grab his hand for reassurance.
He grabs it back and holds it, rubbing his thumb against the back.
"Okay. I'm not going pressure it out of you. Just for future reference, if you ever need to talk, I'm always here. I promise. Fighting or not, I'm here."
I look up at him and smile slightly. He's made me feel happy, angry, depressed, just everything remotely possible for someone to feel and I don't even know how. I don't understand how.
"Thank you Dan."
"You're welcome, Love."
Did Dan just call me 'Love?' As in the romantic situation kind of love or the platonic love. All I know is that my cheeks are probably super red.
"Y/n, are you alright? Are you getting sick? Your face is really red," Phil says.
I laugh at his concern. "No Phil. I'm fine. Its hot. That's all."
I feel Dan's gaze on me. He probably understands the situation.
"Why don't we get you home then. We can order pizza and watch some anime," Dan suggests.
"Thing is, what anime?" I ask, smiling.
"How about.... My Hero Academia?" Dan suggests again.
"Then, hell yeah."
"Wahoo! I can't wait to see my son," Phil says, making me and Dan look at him.
"What?" Dan says.
"Izuku Midoryia."
"Deku? Who said he was your son? He is my nerdy baby," I contradict defensively.
"What is going on?" Dan asks.
"Long story," Phil and I say in unison.
We all laugh as we walk home. For a moment, I forgot all about me and Dan holding hands. It felt...almost natural.
