4. Reunion

For Jason, after resolving to change his attitude, the time seemed to fly by. Because a week from now, Piper was going to come back in his life. That idea gave Jason some major harpies in his stomach.

It had been crazy. Now that he'd caught up with Percy and Leo, he met Annabeth and Calypso again. Calypso looked the same...er, not fifteen, but about Leo's age, since she'd started aging again. Annabeth was different; she now had a protruding belly, and she looked really happy. Like, high on drugs happy.

When Jason met her, her first reaction had been to scream some choice swear words (her scream had gotten higher too), and then she rushed and gave him a hug. And it hurt, because apparently, Annabeth, who was normally very strong, combined with pregnancy, was a sure sign of getting hurt. Jason tried for a smile, and tried not to wince, but combined together it probably looked like a dead man grinning in pain. Maybe that's why Percy laughed so hard.

"Oh, Jason," Annabeth said, actual tears in her eyes. Percy said that Annabeth cried now days, but Jason couldn't believe it. She was Annabeth. Now he could.

"It's been so long. How are you?" She said.

"Um, I'm fine. You're, uh, looking good. How's the pregnancy holding up?"

"Gosh, its so weird. You'd think after dealing with monsters and getting out of Tartarus, I'd know what moods are like. Nope, I think I scare people. Even more now." At this, Percy nodded vigorously behind her, and Jason tried not to laugh.

That was how it was like. The rest of the week, he helped get things into order. Annabeth and Percy's apartment was nice and spacious, and so was Leo's. He tried to help with wedding preparations, but Annabeth and Calypso shooed him and the others out. A girl's job, they said.

Then, on the night before the day Piper was supposed to come, all three of them were sitting in Percy's apartment, calmly sipping beer. At least, Percy and Leo were calm. Jason tried not to show how panicked he was feeling. Despite his resolution not to have alcohol ever, he sometimes gave in. Piper was a little crazy that way.

"So," Leo began. He looked happy too. "We're going to meet Piper tomorrow." Leo said it with a big grin. Jason knew how close Leo was to Piper. He probably had missed her as much as he had.

"Yeah..." Jason said. He probably didn't sound enthusiastic. Or he sounded panicked. Whatever it was, his friends picked up on his mood.

"Look, dude, chill, ok? She won't bite you." Percy said.

"Yeah, she probably missed you, too."

"How can you be so sure?" Jason asked.

"Oh, c'mon. Jason, she's a single mom. I think all of us with male gods as fathers know how hard it is for a single mom. She really needs you, you know. She might not show it, though. Because she's tough like that."

"Yeah. And she'll ignore you, and probably be really bitchy towards you."

"And your job is to counter her bitchiness with some sassiness. Mark my words, she'll like the new you, and then its happily ever after."

Jason looked back and forth at the two of them.

"You guys have really thought this through, haven't you?"

"Like running over a battle plan. We have it all down, Jason."

"That's...wow. Thanks a ton."

"No problem. So tomorrow, don't be stupid and silent like an idiot. Comment. Maybe on how she looks. Act cheerful. She'll be really...confused. And surprised."
