Oscars povI walk into school with different looks being thrown in my direction, embarrassment engulfing me.
People whispering and frowning, some showing pity, some showing humour but everyone showing confusion. Everyone wondering what happened, including me.
Why is my life like this? Am I really that hard to cope with? Have I really drove a man that insane that he's only happy after seeing his own child in pain?
Do I bother others this much too?
I catch my reflection in a window and frown.
I gently touch the cut on my cheek and flinch when a shock of pain flows through my body. Nope, definitely not closed up yet.
It's fine, it's all fine. I just need to get through the day and pretend like this never-
"Hey Oscar how- what the fuck happened to you oh my god, are you ok?" I wince at Abby's rushes over and begins to fuss. "g-guys i-im fi-fine, really" James frowns.
"Oscar that is not fine, you look like you got attacked! Was it Peter? Was it Luke? Oh god Oscar I told you he was-" I shake my head.
"N-no It w-wasn't Lu-luke or Peter." They frown.
"Then who was it?" I tense and smile shakily. "M-my neighb-bours p-pets are a li-little rough. I try and h-help them out from ti-time to time and... y-yeah." They pause before sighing.
"A-are you sure? They look a little intense for just a few dogs" I nod firmly and smile, though even i know it looks awkward. "They-they're just really b-big and wh-when they j-j-jump for food t-this happens haha..." They look at each other, as though silently communicating.
"Maybe we can come help you next time." I shake my head. "No!" They frown. "I m-mean no tha-thankyou, they r-really don't l-like new people." They sigh before Abby slings an arm over my shoulder and we begin walking.
"It's fine I can throw hands with a dog. It can't be worse than-."
I take a deep breath as I hear the bell ring. "I'll s-see you guys af-after class." Before I can leave Abby blocks me slightly. "We have class together remember? It's library study?" I stiffly nod before letting out an awkward laugh.
"I um, I p-promised Lizzie to help t-tutor the new fresh-freshmen, i'll see you l-later." Before they argue I walk away.
As soon as the door closes she pulls me into a tight hug, tension in my chest rising at the sudden panic overwhelming me.
It's just a hug. It's just a hug. Itsjustahug-
"Im so sorry" I shake my head, wincing at the still lingering headache, but still manage to plaster on a smile. "It's f-fine Lizzie, really."
I let out a small gasp as she pulls away, as though for a moment i had forgotten how to breathe.
She gently strokes my cheek under the sore eye. "Did you clean it? Is that all there is or is there more? Do you want me to take you to the nurse?" I hum and shake my head, giving her a soft appreciative smile. Though my words are minimal, she understands. She knows I dont like talking, especially after the year I went completely mute. It's a habbit Lizzie always tried to secretly help me break but it doesn't work, especially when this occurs.
"Please Oscar just- just think about staying with me, even if its only sometimes. Oliver is a messed up man, you don't deserve this from him and i hate that I can't help you." I smile softly at the older girls hush voice, because thats all I can do.
Maybe shes right, but I can't just leave.
I can't move away from him, he will follow me.
I've tried before.
