DONT PLAY THE SONG YET!! Or not at all if you want, I just like the atmosphere it sets ALSO this chapters kind of intense so twOscars pov
I pull down my hood the second I make it through the heavy front doors, a shiver running down my spine. I look down and let out a soft sigh at my damp shoes, wincing as I feel the water seep through with every step that I take.
I usually love rain but it hasn't stopped for days and i'm starting to think it never will.
"Hey angel." I smile as I walk into the classroom and sit down next to Luke.
"Hi, did you do the m-maths homework?"
I smile softly to myself, silently cheering at stuttering less than usual. I guess speech therapy is helping after all. That along with the fact that my dad hasn't been home often, so I guess us staying out of each other's way has helped too.
I look at Luke he gives me a grin, I guess he realised too.
"No, I didn't do the homework, what do I look like, a nerd?" He smirks at me as I pout.
"H-hey! I just want g-good grades..." He chuckles and shakes his head.
"Do you wanna come over tonight?" I smile and nod. "S-sure, only to make sure y-you do your homework." He groans and shakes his head.
"So the only reason you ever hang out with me is to what? Babysit me?" I hum and pull out my work.
"No... it also m-means I can see Lady." He rolls his eyes but his slightly quirked lip tells me he doesn't mean it.
Me and Luke have become kind of close friends recently. I go over to his house a lot and force him to do his homework and it's actually improving his grades slightly, all while he walks with me to school most days and sometimes visits me at work.
It's nice, really nice. Great actually-
I'm suddenly snapped out of my daydream when the classroom phone rings. God I hate that noise, it reminds me of when- "Oscar, your dads here to collect you" I feel my whole body tense.
No
Not today.
Please be something else.
I nod and start to pack my work away, my whole body shaking. I feel myself slowly slipping into the numbing mindset I always do, one where I feel like the world is moving in slow motion.
Sometimes it makes me not even feel real.
"Hey, hey, calm down. Whats up?" My breath catches at Lukes voice.
"N-nothing, I have a d-doctors appointment I for-forgot about. S-sorry I can't come ov-o-over. See you t-tomorrow!"
He nods, a frown slowly forming on his face. I grab my bag and leave, not wanting to make my father wait.
I see Lizzie on the corridor and smile weakly at her. "Hey Oz, where you going?" The go to talk but it's like the words get stuck, the numbing feeling slowly growing more and more.
As though my mind is preparing to shut down.
I smile.
"My f-fathers come to pi-pick me u-up." Her face falls.
"Why? Did you know he was coming to get you? Text me when you know what he's doing okay?" I nod and walk away, not wanting her to see truly how scared I am.
Maybe it will be different this time?
He hasn't come to pick me up from school since the um, the incident last year and I can only pray that this time will be different.
