Y/N
This is it, Y/N. It's time.
You look around at the midst of dancing couples and friends clinking their glasses. The clusters of laughing people and agents having fun.
Fun. Something you wish you could have now. Here. At the Formal.
You tug at the hem of your black dress nervously before darting your eyes around, looking for two people: Taeyong and Head Kim.
Before long, you spot Jen, your best friend, instead. Excitement bubbles up inside of you, almost overcoming your previous, dark emotions as you tumble over to her as gracefully as you can in heels and wrap your arms around her with a huge smile.
"Jen!" you exclaim, squeezing your arms around her even tighter.
"Y/N, woah, stop, you'll choke me," she giggles.
You smile, closing your eyes shut and enjoying the precious moment.
Jen pulls away, looking into your now opened eyes.
"Have you had trouble in your new segment? Do I need to beat someone up tonight?" she asks with her hands on your shoulders.
You shake your head.
"No..." you trail off as your eyes catch Jungkook's form lingering not too far away, watching you.
You snap your head back towards your friend.
"Um, Jen, where are the others?" you ask.
She smirks playfully.
"Are you looking for Taeyong or Jaehyun? I really couldn't tell who you liked more."
"What makes you think I'm looking for one of the guys?" you ask.
"Just because... now have you made any new friends? Any hotter guys? Introduce me, Y/N!" Jen grins while she smacks your cheeks lightly.
You roll your eyes.
"Where's Taeyong?"
Jen jerks up straight, waving a slender finger in your face.
"Aha! I knew it!"
You don't even want to know what she knew.
"Jen, I really need to see Taeyong right now-"
"Why?" she crosses her arms
You huff, shooting a death glare her way.
Jen leans back and puts both her hands up in surrender.
"Okay, okay! I know you're impatient, just don't get caught, ok?" Jen says, taking your hand in hers and pulling you through the maze of guests, eventually stopping in front of two men in extravagant suits talking and laughing.
You recognize the face that makes you want to ugly cry of happiness and agony at the same time.
He turns his head and sees you, his glimmering eyes lighting up in that way you love so much instantly.
"Princess! I haven't seen you in forever!" Taeyong whines as he hurriedly embraces you tightly, so tight it's like he never wants to let go.
You return the embrace with a weak smile.
You have a moment there before Jen interrupts you with her screechy voice.
"Oh my gosh, isn't that pretty guy from last year?" Jen suddenly exclaims. "I need to go. Use protection, you two! Jaehyun, stop third wheeling and go eat some cake," Jen says as she goes out of sight, hidden by the guests in seconds.
Jaehyun frowns deeply.
"I don't like cake."
You look at Jaehyun.
"Then get yourself another drink," you say.
"Why? I have one already."
You hesitate.
He looks at you, then Taeyong, who's just standing beside you with his hands in his pockets, then back at you. As his eyes dart back and forth, his smile just grows bigger and bigger. It never stops growing.
"I thought Jen was just fooling around, but I don't think she's joking. You're both really-" Jaehyun stops out of excitement overload, let's out an indescribable, animal-like sound, and slaps his knee. He straightens and puts two heavy hands on Taeyong's shoulders."Good job, man. I ship."
And he leaves.
Just like that.
The two of you just stand there, an awkward silence blanketing over you, unsure of what to say.
Then you remember what you have to do.
You clear your throat.
"U-uh Taeyong? Can we speak in private? Somewhere a little... quieter?" you ask hesitantly.
He looks surprised for just a split second before conserving his look again and nodding his head.
He better not be taking this the wrong way right now.
You grasp his wrist and tug him towards the exit.
You only stop once you're outside and far away from all the guests.
Jungkook
I watch Y/N pull her friend out of the building with dark eyes. Actually, I don't think he's just a friend. They have to be more than that.
What I don't get is why it bothers me so much.
From the day she took that bullet for me, I've been confused with my feelings.
That bullet was the start of this strange war being battled inside of me.
Before it, I couldn't care less if Y/N died. But when I saw her, all beaten and the blood pouring out of her shoulder endlessly, I couldn't help but feel the need to protect her. To shield her from all harm.
Then when she accused me of ruining her sleep that night, I felt guilt. Guilt, something I don't feel very often. Guilt, something that just doesn't fit in a sentence with my name.
After that, Y/N finally came to me, me of all people for comfort. She told me everything first. I just felt so accomplished, and that was the last straw. That was when I decided who I wanted to be to her.
And now she's just gone off with that guy.
Now, that guy is the one responsible for her care. He's the one comforting her. And I don't like it, I don't like people taking what's mine.
I want to be the one taking care of her.
The fragile, breakable, but sarcastic, strong, Y/N.
I want to be the brother to her.
"Hyung, are you sure about this?" I ask.
"I'm always sure, Kook. Don't question the IQ," Namjoon says.
I suck in my breath and nod.
Why can't I be as confident as him about this?
