We walk towards aunties room beside the kitchen, she's busy arranging the clothes into her cupboard. As she notices us getting in, "Hey", she waves. "Want something?"
"We need to say something", Emi put forward her words.
"Sure, say", her eyes still glued on her clothes as she's arranging them while me and Emi are confused how to start. "What happened?" Auntie perhaps noticed the scepticism on our faces for which she comes forward facing us.
"Auntie, actually our college planned a 10 day tour which includes the North Appalachians and many other places, there'll be camping, hiking and all", I finally blurt out the words while her eyes are still glued on us with a expression I fail to gasp, "We just wanted to ask if you'll permit us or not", God! I managed to say so.
"So you both need my permission?" We nod to her question. "That's a great opportunity", her eyes just glittered up. So does this mean, she's allowing us? "I won't forbid you from going but I need a promise from you both", there's a motherly concern in her voice.
"What?" Emi asks.
"That you both will take care of yourselves. John and me won't be there to look after you. I'm really worried, you both never stayed away for so long that too, in North America and other places", I can underst what she means. It's palpable for a mother to be concerned for her children.
"You don't have to worry", I place my palm on the back of her joint hands, "We will take care of ourselves", I assure her.
"I trust you both. So is there any form, you need my signatures on", I remember there is. I rush upstairs in my room to bring out the forms from mine and Emi's bag. After getting down I hand her the forms with a pen which she signs, "When are you leaving?"
"Day after tomorrow", Emi informs.
"Well then, you have a lot of packing to do".
"Yeah, we'll start now", I exclaim and she gives an assuring smile after which we both go upstairs in our room.
After we both lie comfortably on our respective beds facing each other, Emi exclaims, "I'm so so so happy. We are going."
"Indeed!" I can't agree more. "But we'll have to take care of ourselves and especially you. You just don't listen to me", I narrow my eyes at her since she's way too irresponsible.
"Come on. I have you", she winks, "By the way, Eila".
"Hmm?"
"Is Jim coming?" No sooner had she mentioned him than my cheeks got red at his name. I try hard to avoid blushing but I fail.
"Yeah", I bite my lips.
"Woooo!" She sits up on her bed, "You both. Together", her eyes widens at the thought. I sit up to face her properly, "So what?"
"Don't act naive. You know what I mean", she frowns.
"No, I don't", I just give a carefree look.
"Who knows what you both might do, in these 10 days. 10 days is not a small time, you see", that phenomenal teasy smile again curves her lips. But why am I blushing? I shouldn't.
