That Saturday had been just fabulous eating as much as could fit inside us and buying a ton of gorgeous clothes. I got a leather mini skirt with studs on the pockets, semi-long black combat boots with chains and studs recommended by Avril, a lace crop top, and other fabulous clothes. I have to admit, Avril is probably the best counselor in the history of the X Factora.
A lot of time had passed by since then, seeing Evelyn and I rock the stage and more importantly, not get eliminated.
A few days ago Evelyn and I moved into a house supplied by the contest just for groups so that we can collaborate off-hours also and so we can get used to having each other around. The house is bigger than we need with four bedrooms, two for us and two serving as guest bedrooms. The house also has a bathroom for each bedroom and a powder room on the first floor. Included in the house is a dance studio and outdoor pool.
Now we are in the dance studio practicing our dance for about the hundredth with our choreographer in sweats and tank tops. The contest had given us black high-top sneakers on the very first day for dancing in the choreographer studio. We are performing the song "Raise Your Glass" by P!nk tonight and we cannot screw up this because we must get to the next stage which is singing at a series of five concerts all over the UK. The counselors judge us by how confident we are and our vocals in that round. After that all the contestants have one show where each person and/or group has two songs to perform. That is what determines the winner of the contest.
After the dance studio we run to our dress rehearsal. Apart from all the other rehearsals this is the one where our counselor gives us final feedback to keep in mind for our performance.
After we sing for our dress rehearsal Avril calls us to sit on the side of the stage. I prepare for the worst.
Avril starts off by giving us our compliments.
"Girls, I loved how perfectly you have the dance down and how you really engage your voices in the song."
Then comes the worse part of the feedback session.
"But remember what we went over before. When you sing the really high notes please do not shriek them. Instead remember what we worked on when we just let the notes flow through our mouth. This is probably because you are nervous but learn to contain that anxiety and mold that into your vocals, alright?"
"We'll try better for the actual performance," I answer for both Evelyn and me.
"That's the right attitude. When you get out there rock my socks off and remember my feedback, okay?" Avril asked.
"Okay, we totally will," Evelyn says this time.
"Now I recognize my girls. Sing like your life depends on it tonight." Avril ended with that.
