Chapter 26

A few days passes and I'm feeling well enough to walk around. As I'm doing my morning stretch the doctor walks in. He always looks hurried.

"How are you feeling today, Ms. Evans?" he asks me.

"Good, thank you. When will I be able to go home?" I respond.

"If all goes well today will be the long-awaited day," he says scrawling something on a clipboard.

Inside, my hearts skips a beat from joy. This place feels like a detention center and to put it mildly, the food here is not close to gourmet. The doctor takes a few minutes to take off my bandages constantly reminding me how lucky I am that I got away with only temporary injuries. Finally he leaves telling me to pack up everything. As he leaves the doors does not close but instead Evelyn comes in.

"Here, I heard you're leaving today and I'm not letting you leave in those clothes," she says gesturing disgustedly at the hospital gown. She pulls out a faded button-up denim shirt, ripped jeans, and a pair of low-top Converse. Very casual but anything's better than the hospital clothes. Not bothering to go into the bathroom I struggle out of the gown and dress into the clothes Evelyn has brought. I roam about the room gathering my belongings while Evelyn makes herself at home lounging on my bed. When I finish we both head out to the lobby to check out. When we come out Niall and Louis are asleep, heads on each other's shoulders, in the waiting room chairs.

"Ahem, ahem," Evelyn clears her throat while I giggle signing the checkout forms.

I bound over to Louis after I sign everything and clap my hands right by his ear. He wakes up startled looking around for the culprit until he sees me dragging me into his lap and tickling me until I surrender.

"Whoa," Evelyn and Niall say in unison now standing next to each other. "PDA much?"

We head out, Louis and I with big silly grins on our faces.

"Where's my car?" I suddenly remember.

"Your parents towed it away to the body shop. It should be coming back today," Evelyn tells me seriously.

I say no more and we all get into what I assume is Louis' car. Louis and I sit in front while Evelyn and Niall tease each other in the back. Suddenly I'm overcome with nausea and open the window desperate for fresh air. Louis pulls over his hand rubbing my back and asking me if everything's alright. A few seconds later the feeling passes over and I tell him to start driving again. Thankfully the rest of the journey goes without any more carsickness. We all rush out going to what Louis said is Evelyn's house. Louis picks me up and gently lays me on the couch whispering in my ear that I should rest. Evelyn comes from the kitchen with a tray of biscuits and four cups of tea. I sit up delighted at the delicious smell unable to sleep. I eagerly dig in Louis looking at me dumbfounded.

"You've never had such an appetite," Louis gasps.

"You would too if you had been eating that nasty hospital food," I say between chews.

They all laugh and start eating. I tell them about my stay at the hospital and they fill me in on parts I don't remember. Louis, in his usual repertoire, cracks a few jokes making us all burst out with laughter. When all's said and done I begin to feel drowsy from the meds I'm on and Louis and I go home. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillows on the couch.

Evelyn's POV

"Niall, what if Callie finds out that Louis is lying to her?" I ask anxiously.

"Oh, I have no doubt she will sooner or later. I guess we'll just have to let the storm come," Niall sighs.

"What about our wedding?" I decide to bring the subject back up. We were arguing in the hospital waiting room already about where it's going to be. In the end I got my way. We booked the Queen's House in Greenwich for our wedding. It's the Queen's former residence and I wouldn't settle for less. Our wedding is in two months and we still have to decide on the invitations, wedding dress, guests, and food. We still have to tell our parents, which is the most nerve wracking part.

"Hey, I have an idea. Why don't Callie and you go shopping for you wedding dress and her maid of honor dress while Louis and I go shopping for our suits? That'll give us all a chance to relax!"

"Yes, yes, and yes! Have I ever told you that I love you?"

"I love you too."

We fall asleep next to each other on the couch, blissfully and carelessly in love.
