I spend the night silently crying myself into a fitful sleep. While I'm awake, billions of thoughts and questions run through my head, some of which I know the answers to. Why? How did I do it? What now? I still can't believe I finished our relationship off. The bed feels so empty and cold like a black hole without Emmett laying beside me, hands wrapped around my waist. It was when I emptily said " We're done, Emmett. I'm done" I finally realized that all along I had not actually loved him, but I had just used him because he was familiar to me.
When I finally wake up I run to the mirror. My worst fears are confirmed as I scan my reflection. My eyes are red and puffy and all the mascara is running down my face. With the mascara and the platinum blond and black hair I look absolutely emo. "Hey, that's not a bad idea," I think silently, "Maybe then all the jerks will lay off." I wipe the mascara off and apply some natural-looking makeup. I throw on a beige sweater, leggings, and grey Cardy UGG boots and run downstairs to grab some breakfast. I see everyone else already sitting at the table. Without a word I make myself some cereal and pour some kiwi juice in a glass. I sit next to Evelyn and start eating. I look up and say "So, thanks, guys, for your help with Emmett yesterday. I think I'll change the locks today just in case."
Harry is the first one to respond. "No problem. That's what friends are for."
I guess we really have become close with the guys over the course of the contest. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I think I really will miss the boys when the whole event is over. Time does wonders.
My thoughts are interrupted by a honking outside. "That must be our ride to the studio," I say trying to sound upbeat. We all put our dishes in the sink and head out.
The ride to the studio is fairly quiet. On the way I call some people to organize for them to change the locks.
Sometimes I can't believe we've come this far in the contest. Tonight is the last round which determines if we are the winner. Tonight Evelyn and I must shine like the sun. Our first stop is he choreography studio where, Enrique, our choreographer is standing with his arms crossed.
"Alright, ladies, are we pumped for this or what? One, two, three, four...." he trails off as we start our dance routine to "Crash Your Party" by Karmin. Once we have our dance down we relax for a few minutes and take a sip of Vitamin Water before the next rotation. The next rotation is with Avril and we focus on hitting the notes just right. Once Avril is fully satisfied and does not have any more criticism we sit by the stage and just talk.
"Hey, girls, what's up? Anything new?" Avril asks.
"Yeah, Callie finally dumped her lame excuse for a boyfriend." Evelyn blurts out.
"Evelyn, he wasn't that horrible, was he?" I ask sincerely.
"Uh, yeah, he was," they say in unison.
"Oh my gosh, guys. It's a good thing I broke up with him, then, right?" I laugh.
"On the bright side, Chad proposed to me," she says happily holding up her hand with the ring on it.
"Oh my gosh, that's fabulous. Can we help you plan it?" I ask my face lighting up.
"Sure, you can both help. You're probably some of my closest friends," she says all giggly.
"I see someone had a good night last night," Evelyn winks.
"It's true, someone should give you a mirror. You need to see how bubbly and cheerful you look right now. It's rubbing off," I add on.
"Is it really that obvious?" she asks blushing.
I see a dark figure striding toward us and it turns out to be Louis.
"Can I speak to you?" he asks quietly with force in his tone.
"Of course," I reply.
Once we're out of sight of Avril and Evelyn he starts talking.
"Sooo...how's your very stimulating party with the teachers, otherwise known as lessons, going so far?"
I laugh at his joke and then my face becomes suddenly serious in an attempt to make him laugh. He bursts out laughing not trying to hold it back.
"Wow, I didn't know I was that amusing," I say.
"Well, you are. Anyways I was wondering maybe now that Emmett's out of the picture..." he trails off.
"Louis we're not going over this. I just need some time to recover from him. Sorry," I say backing away.
"Oh," he says with his eyes looking confused.
I head back to Avril and continue doing my rotations trying to keep the picture of Louis' sad eyes out of my head the whole day. Remember, Callie, tonight's the night. You can't be distracted by some boy.
But he's not just some boy.
