I picked out the song I am going to perform two months before this actual moment happened. The special song I prepared is "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele. I have practiced it so much during that time yet I worry I might mess up in front of all these people, whether they are influential or not. A simple five minutes might change the course of my life. It is scary to think about how much this will impact my career and my life.

As I walk up to the stage I think about all the moments leading up to this final test. Bringing up the possibility at the dinner table, begging my parents for a week to let me try this, silently picking out the song in my room, singing every day after school for an hour in the living room, and driving to the building where the auditions are being held.

On the stage now I see the real Bruno Mars, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, and Justin Timberlake. They ask me questions about my name, age, and where I go to school. I rush through these questions still incredulous about my situation. Finally they ask which song I will be presenting and I answer calmly " 'Set Fire to the Rain.' " They tell me to go ahead and do my best. At first I forget the lyrics to the song out of shock but I quickly recover. Immediately I start singing for four whole minutes. After I am done they look at me with shock. Did I sing the wrong lyrics or worse, sing so horribly that I left them speechless?

Bruno starts by saying "Oh...my....that voice belongs to an angel...not from hell but from heaven. You can count my answer as a definite yes."

Avril adds on to that by saying "Yes, yes, and yes again. I want to see that voice become a star."

I chime in with a quick "Thank you so much."

Justin Timberlake claims "I do not think you have the potential to be a star and this might be just my opinion but I say no."

"Oh, crap," I think to myself. "What if Kelly says no also? What happens then? Do I stay or do I go?"

Kelly says "Justin may have his own opinion but you get a total yes from me. We need you on this show."

Oh my gosh, I am in to one of the most serious singing competitions of all time. I am about to burst into tears when they say "Thank you" and I get signaled to come off stage by the staff behind the curtain.
