When we are in times of darkness it is our natural instinct to seek the light. To look for hope. We seek its warmth, it's touch and we are amazed by its beauty but when that hope is gone, when that hope is taken from us, we fall back into the darkness. You torture a man who has know nothing but pain he will not break for he is used to the pain. He has no reason to look for hope. If you take man who has known nothing but the light and throw him into the dark he will do anything to gain the light again but eventually the darkness will be quick to consume and he will give up like the first man. If you take a man from the dark and give him hope, let him relish in the light, savour it and then take it away. Constantly repeating the cycle of light and dark, hope and despair. That man will become dependant on that hope like a drug he will thirst, he will beg for it. He will be truly broken. The Light only serves to blind and burn him. The Hope that was once seen as his saviour has now become his villain.
Hope is far deadlier than you think. Hope is this worlds most powerful form torture.
It has been one week since Vesper initially teleported the pack to the halfway point. Only a week left of their journey before they arrived at the Hunter base. The trees rustled as blurs of red, explosions of black and streams of white travelled through the night forest. The pack had been none stop moving all night using their abilities. Ayla at the front of the pack noticed a hidden clear spot of green suitable for a camping ground. She reared to towards the spot and the pack followed.
"Halt!"
Ayla announced to the pack.
The pack materialised out of their mobility forms waiting for Ayla to speak.
" Alright dawn is approaching, movement will be limited in the day. Let's rest up for a few hours and we'll continue in the afternoon. We'll make camp here."
Murmurs and sighs of relief could be heard amongst the pack as they dismounted and set up camp. Kuro's group rested in the trees above as he himself stayed vigilant, although a little more relaxed. Agnello, Rufus and Vesper had found a clear spot for themselves to set up their tent. Agnello signalled for the other two to stay back. His eyes glowed as he moved his finger in a straight line just in front of him creating a line of white which floated in the air. From the end of the line drew with his finger in the air the outline of a medium sized tent. In between the lines it was filled with hard cloth like light. Agnello waved his hand the white glow from the tent disappeared taking on the appearance of a standard weaved tent.
"You've gotten better at light building." Vesper complimented.
" I mean it's only the basics. I leave the complicated stuff to the architects." Agenllo responded.
Rufus had taken a bottle of blood from one of his saddle bags and took a swig.
" Man that's the good stuff. Finally we get to rest I'm beat."
The three took their saddles and bags off the their dire wolves placing them just outside the tent. Kya, Maximus and Astra laid next the supplies making sure they were protected. Agnello and the others entered the tent and began to make themselves comfortable. Rufus taking a few more sips from his bottle sparks the conversation.
" Been a long ride huh?"
Vesper while unwrapping some deer meat that she had taken out from her supplies.
" That's for sure."
Agnello taking a bite out of deer meat which he had also taken from his saddle bags.
" Only one more week left."
" Yeah, and then we get to the hard part." Vesper responded enthusiastically.
