A month had passed since the incident and Basira's symptoms although less violent were still around and noticeable.  Many nights were often spent sleepless, her moods became more sporadic and she was spent most her time being sick.

Not to mention the humans had taken a string interest in her ever since it started. Very often they would take her away to run tests and whenever they were taken out to exercise Basira would be made to stay behind or taken away for more tests.

All of this caused a nervous energy amongst the group. Especially when it came to Apex. He was always by her side whenever he could and whenever she wasn't able to his mind seemed to be clouded. His usual charming smile didn't feel as genuine as it would before. Not when Basira was being taken away and poked with needles and whatever contraptions. The worst part was that the entire time they were left in the dark.

No one would tell them anything, no updates, no diagnosis. Absolutely nothing.  They were left completely in the dark.

Apex sat on the edge of his bed as he could hear gut wrenching noises from the bathroom. Something they were forced to get used to. The others had gotten to the point where they could easily sleep through it but for Apex it was impossible. He simply couldn't close his eyes until he knew she was okay and by his side.

"It's funny a few years ago the idea of you being attached to a woman would feel like a folk tale. Look at you now."

He wiped the sleep from his eyes only to a guard enter the room. Multiple guards stood behind him on the outside.

"Get up." He ordered.

Apex looked to the bathroom in fear that no one would be here to look after Basira but his worries were calmed by Aria.

"Don't worry, I'll look after her."

Despite still feeling reluctant he knew saying no would simply cause more trouble than good.
He stood up and put his hands out allowing his cuffs to magnetise together. He was forcefully pushed out and taken away by the group of armed guards.

Apex already knew what was about to happen. Ever since he killed those hunters before he would often be taken out randomly like this. On the day of the incident he was taken and tortured for 3 days straight. However the guards still held bitterness towards Apex which would often lead to meetings like this.

The guards took him to a dark lightly lit room. They forcefully pushed him forward as he simply stumbled and stood in the centre. Apex simply sighed knowing what was about happen and knowing he couldn't do anything back he just let it happen.

The guards took out their batons some electrified and some not and began to lay into him. Combos of bludgeoning hits to the back, stomach along with electrified discharges that went through his body. However he didn't scream, he didn't groan, he didn't yell, he didn't curse. He didn't because he couldn't and they loved that.

All of them took great pride and joy as they beat him with him unable to voice any sort of pain or any form of hatred back. He just had to take it. All of their hate for him, their disgust, their prejudice.

Towards the end he was covered in blood, bruises and burns as he was on his knees. One guard rose his hand signalling for them to stop. "That's enough for today. Boss says we can't kill him."

The guard crouched down to Apex's level looking him dead in the eye with a disgusting smirk. "Let's get pretty boy over here to his dumb slut of a girlfriend."

In and instant the guard suddenly sound himself clutching his nose in pain as blood gushed from it. "AH FUCK!"

Apex had hit him with a strong head butt which was quickly met with the other guards beating him once more but Apex barely wavered.
