lost writers

you say you are old
but you have just forgotten who you are
your edges are as rough as the paper you write in
you are the wind that takes people's breaths away

you are constantly shrinking yourself
convinced that you take up too much space
the haunted forest of your mind
keeping you up at night

the music you recommend
is all fragments of who you are
and I'm piecing it together bit by bit
the lyrics and the drums drowning out reality

you never stop writing
the ink flowing from the pen and etching itself into your brain
whispering words that bring adrenaline to your heart
it's the only thing making you feel alive at this point

one time you told me
you wanted to watch the world burn
i know you would survive the chaos
so when do you want me to bring you the matches?

the stardust in your veins
and the moon in your eyes
comets dancing around your head
you are made of asteroids

you are the hope in the dark
no matter how empty you feel
no matter how cracked your ribs are
no matter how much your voice shakes

because we are a team
and i will never stop reminding you
how much you matter
how important you are

we're sad a lot
most times we don't even know what's wrong
but we find comfort in each other
two lost writers
